The minute he hired AV & Michel, then traded for the rights to and massively overpaid Hayes, you were all warned.

And it just keeps getting worse.
He didn't massively overpay Hayes, that was the going rate, but he was pushed into by Patrick (they knew was damaged goods) and the "win now" mandate. The only other center was Duchene (Pavelski wasn't coming East) - so not signing Hayes meant writing off 2019-20 after giving AV $25M - try selling that to the PTB!

Everything has been driven by the organizational focus on making the playoffs (Holmgren got lucky in 2009-10 and thinks history repeats itself, just sneak in and . . . ).

It's been reactionary since Holmgren was GM, no plan, no strategy, everything year to year patches. The same pattern under Fletcher, same moves, same results.

Hextall tried to buck it, but still signed Weise, and finally JVR, and other than Schenn, didn't really commit to a rebuild. Tried to make the playoffs while rebuilding and half-assed both.

They'll get JG, make the playoffs one year, get blown out in the first round, miss the next year, make some moves to get back . . .

Sorry if this has been suggested already but, just hypothetically…

Fletcher sends the Florida first with JVR to Anaheim.

Gaudreau decides that he still wants nothing to do with this hollow shell of an organization and signs with jersey because, it’s not philly but it’s close.

Fletcher, now truly panicked, signs geno malkin. This ends it for the authentic fans, Paul holmgren and Bobby Clark, who all share a passionate hatred for soviets (malkin isn’t, but that doesn’t really matter anymore). Clarke and Holmgren resign in disgust; the authentic’s sell their tickets at pennys on the dollar to anyone who wants to have background noise for three hours. Malkin plays ten games of dominant looking, nearly point per game hockey, and nobody notices. He then suffers another injury and decides it’s really not worth it, so he retires back to Russia.

Comcast realizes it’s economically viable and sells the team. New owner drags fletcher up broad street to atone for his sins and fires him. Owner promises to do it right this time.

Voila, progress within a year. Guys, we may be onto something here. It’s going as planned.

I'll go with Mark's Duck House.

I miss Arlington. I live in the culinary desert that is Eastern Montgomery county. I hope to escape some day.

This will sound like a dumb question, but it's important:

Are they good at making duck?

I've had Peking Duck in Beijing and I'm picky AF now

It’s very good for the area, especially on this side of the bridge. The best way I can put it is that there are 4 places in the Philadelphia metro I consider to have good enough roast duck to order — Ting Wong (Chinatown), Sang Kee (Chinatown), Lau Kee (Chinatown), and Joe’s. Joe’s was originally opened in the 80s by a guy who worked at the Chinatown Sang Kee.

My favorite bird of the group is Ting Wong, but their sauce isn’t quite as good as the others. Ting Wong’s is also flat style, which I know isn’t for everyone.

Thank you for this. This helps greatly in my quest for some duck. I had duck last at this place in Jersey City that was meh...and a spot in Baltimore that was *horrific*

Ting Wong it is!

Picture it.

Chuck manages to trade JVR. Then makes a trade with Montreal for Josh Anderson.

If you're eating anything besides steamed crabs in Baltimore or heading over to Little Italy, you're going to have a bad time.

Magerks in Fed Hill is a great Philly bar though and they make a surprisingly great cheesesteak.

Did that storm slam you as ridiculously as my office in College Park got wrecked?

I wonder if they’re taking a look at Andrew Copp. That would be a guy where if you’re planning for whatever this is, like he makes sense as a versatile player and you would have 3 centers.

Feel like it would be a move Detroit would make.

I believe reports from NY had him seeking 6M+ AAV on a longterm deal

Montgomery, Cty, PA.

Weird thing about the DC area, big tornadoes in both Maryland and Virginia when I lived there, bigger than anything that hit around Austin, Texas (southern end of tornado alley) when I spent decades there.

Never thought of that region as a big storm area.

Oh, he'll get it for sure.
And that's why I'm adamant about avoiding FA, Copp is a solid player, but is he any better than Laughton?
HItting FA at 27 coming off a career season (40 ES points), but more of a 25-35 ES point guy up to then.

He was on that road in 2021 also.

I don't think it's prudent, I think it's a guy they'd look at.
