I think Fletcher was hoping JG would accept Calgary's offer, then he could go to Scott and say there's no chance, can we finally take a couple years and rebuild?

Because now he's going to be forced to do something stupid, not signing JG may get him fired this year, signing JG may get him fired next year.

The irony if he uses the Florida pick to move JVR is he's traded
G, JVR and Lindblom for JG and Tippett and a 3rd rd pick.

But all will be for naught unless Torts sprinkles fairy dust on TDA and Risto and turns them into actual defensemen.

Or, get this: the guy with more power than any manager in team history could have told his clueless passenger of a ceo what the best path is, asserted himself, fired the advisors, and gone down the right road. Or he could resign I protest to save his reputation.

He chooses not to. He chooses to empower the advisors and listen to them. He choose to value them and appease them.

He is one of them, and he is at minimum the same as them. He's not different. He's not better. He's not a victim. He's the problem as much as they are.
