Since this seems to be misunderstood, you do not have to be under the cap with Ellis if he's starting the year on the IR.

If you get under the cap and then IR Ellis, you get his full cap hit in accruing LTIR dollars. If you don't get under, your accruing dollars are only the amount by which you exceeded the cap with the IRed player.

So if Ellis is indeed going on the IR and they can't get under while counting him, they would likely want to spend every dollar they can up toward the cap.

What is the rule for the opening of the season? I thought every team needed to be compliant on day 1, and then they could move players to LTIR, or is that not correct?

i really don't want them to offload a 1st to create more capspace so they could sign JG but i'm also very surprised that they don't seem to be trending in that direction. i just naturally assumed Cuck would go full Pejorative Slur with this whole situation. if they end up setlling for Dylan Strome or some other budget top 6er, then i'll start to think that their real plan this offseason was to troll the fans.

Can't help but wonder if this is Ottawa. They fit the criteria of up and coming, and Gaudreau not replying could be indicative of him not wanting to remain in Canada (I suspect that's at least part of the issue causing him to want to come back East; if he lives in the US, travel becomes much easier in the offseason and during down time, which could matter to someone with a young family.)

Did Hart play in the NHL regular season before Fletch? I remember he was called up when Elliott broke after Hextall got fired, but don't remember him playing before then.

So I went on capfriendly for first time in... probably years. And I got insanely depressed looking at this team. It really is a horribly ran team. Makes me sad honestly.

No he played after Fletcher was hired. Finally had like 4 good AHL games in a row and they threw him right in. Made that wild save on Taylor Hall during the 5-on-3 not long after that
