They're going to make an effort to improve and draw more/appease some fans. That doesn't mean I think they are gunning playoffs or bust, because I don't. I think they want progress and fan interest.

I completely agree they want to avoid a Sabres/Devils situation. It's easy for posters here to say they should tank the season, but the organization knows that they will lose the fanbase further with another season of being a dispirited punching bag.
They could have done a Rangers thing and put a notice out to the fans that they need to tear down and rebuild. They could have easily done that. They've chosen this route of retooling instead of rebuilding. Everyone can see how bad the club is, yet the idiot GM and his right hand man pretend that things are OK and they're doubling down, thinking fans are idiots and they're going to buy their crap hook, line and sinker.

The only good thing to come from this is that Schmuck is on the hot seat now and if this blows up (which it probably will) this is ALL on him.

Have you listened to Dave Scott? He's not issuing a tear-down notice to the fans. This is coming from the top.

If they fired Fletcher this summer, Dave Scott's orders aren't suddenly going to change.

I would like to think Flyers fans want everyone out(be it formal or informal influence).
Clarke
Homer
Fletch
Scott

This organization needs a clean sweep of the front office.

And until they complete this sweep at best we will be round 1 and done or more likely out of the playoff hunt.

Fans love making sweeping declarations like this.

I also heard things like "Washington will never win the Cup with Ovechkin." And "Washington will never win the Cup with Trotz."

it's funny you dont know the difference between a teardown and retool because rangers never tore it down, they traded their vets for proven players not draft picks and they kept most of their drafted players that they hit from the previous regime and added those guys, that's not a teardown.
getting rid fletch wont fix anything, they are not tearing it down, the rules for the draft have changed so you cant tear it down. sorry but the nhl doesnt want more teams going to the craphole.

I remember firmly disagreeing that Ovechkin can't win a Cup, and stipulating that Trotz will not win a Cup until he carries his regular season flexibility into the playoffs.

They did that when Hextall was hired, then after four years, Scott/Holmgren got impatient.
AV made them think the team was there.
Then everything imploded.

Though even Hextall refused to go scorched earth, if you're trading Schenn, why not also trade Simmonds and Voracek (instead of a big extension) and really rebuild.

They did not commit to a rebuild. They committed to actually using their draft picks for once. Nothing more.

Huh?
Nash for Spooner (flipped for Strome), Lindgren (20, #49) and 1st
McDonagh & Miller for Namestnikov (26), Howden (20, #27), Hajek (20, #37), 1st and 2nd
Zuc for 2nd, 3rd
Hayes for 1st

2nd and 3rd for Fox (21)
1st and Pionk (24) for Trouba (25)
Skjei (26) for 1st - so essentially Skjei and Pionk for Trouba.

Only established player acquired in veteran trades was Strome.

The Rangers sent the rebuild "letter" to fans in February 2018.

On July 1, 2019 they signed UFA Artemi Panarin for 7 years at $11.6M per.
Panarin was 28 at that point, and they signed him with the money saved by trading/not resigning a number of veteran forwards.

Maybe i'll wait another 47 years to make a sweeping declaration.

or I could see the results of the last 10 years are
1 out round 2
3 out round 1
6 golf courses after game 82.

But sure I trust the guy who traded Brent Burns for 4 cents on the dollar.

I absolutely care more about Stranger Things than the NHL draft when it comes to July things. It's a forgone conclusion the the Flyers are going to f*** this draft up either immediately or come 3 seasons when none of these players develop to their ceilings. At least there's mystery surrounding Stranger Things
