The entire NHL is full of players getting injured and reinjured over and over again. The automatic assumption that Flyers players only get injured because of the medical staff is just a coping mechanism for people to childish to accept the reality of the sport.

Nah, don't think so. Even Fletcher alluded to something not being right with how injuries were handled this past season.

Anytime a player gets hurt it’s blamed on being rushed back, even if it happens 3 months after a surgery with a 5 week recovery time like Hayes last summer.

Again, it’s a coping mechanism.
So Ellis, Hayes, and Farabee all coming back from surgeries and suffering reinjuries in their 1st or 2nd games back is not enough evidence that maybe they were not fully recovered and ready to play yet?

There’s no guarantee that waiting another week or another month would have prevented it. In the case of Hayes he unluckily got caught in a very awkward position in his 2nd game back that probably would have injured anyone on the team, while Ellis played a normal looking game that whatever his underlying issue was could not handle. He had five plus months off after that and still wasn’t able to play again, so no rushing there, and yet he was still unable to get on the ice.

Playing in games against real opposition will always put more strain on an previously injured area than practicing, and athletes won’t know for sure that they’re 100% until they get back in real competition. Anyone who has ever played sports at any kind of level should understand that.

if the draft class is this good then the no brainer move is intentionally losing for this season. If you do the "ethically correct thing" next season then fine, but this season should be a full tank. just give us this season to tank, please.

A smart organization should be doing everything they can to acquire more firsts. I'd even consider trading the 5th overall for a first next season.

But, this organization has never had smart management (except Keith Allen during the 70s and then Bob Mccammon built the mid-late 80's team) since Clarke took over in 85, so we know they're going to do the exact opposite and trade their 2023 first for veteran bullshit.

If they trade their 2023 first I'm revoking my fandom..... I'll adopt Arizona since now I live in the Phoenix area. And I'm guessing they're going to do the tanking thing the next couple of seasons.

Hayes is a good example, it had nothing to do with being rushed back.

It was an infection that wasn't detected immediately, probably b/c pain is normal when you initiate activity, often due to tearing scar tissue - so only after it persisted did they start looking for other causes. It probably took a while to identify b/c being internal, there wouldn't be the same obvious signs.

You ltir farabee and anyone else who gets hurt and bring them in for some get in shape games after the deadline. They used to call this "taking care of your veterans" find a nice pt guy down in Florida and see what the kids can do. The last thing you want is to put unnecessary miles on the guys you are going to need to compete once the kids are ready

Curufinwe is right about the injuries.

Everyone wants to pile on the Flyers organization, but it's hockey, more players than ever are getting hurt, and the Flyers have simply had a ton of bad luck.

The Flyers didn't cause Patrick's migraines. They didn't cause Ghost's knee and hip. They didn't cause Hayes's core, or fluke play that reinjured it, or fluke infection. They didn't cause Couturier's back or Ellis' pelvis (he only played 4 games!). They didn't cause Farabee's disc. They didn't cause Farabee's sliding into the boards shoulder-first.

I’m not particularly fond of Turcotte. He seems like he’ll become a “fine” middle 6 NHLer. Now, I’d trade Provorov for Olen Zellweger and ANA 23 1st Rd pick (or something like that). Provorov should easily net (even a poor GM like Fletcher) a boatload of assets. He plays lots of minutes, you see…

Yea seems like we could make that deal work with LA though. Not sure Anaheim would want to give up that package. Their GM would own chuck pretty hard too.

Chuck's gonna do a lot less than expected, Torts sounds like a guy who wants to evaluate the talent on the team, and is not in a rush to add talent until he knows what he has on hand.

I don't expect a major FA signing, reports are they don't expect to make the playoffs this year nor do I see Torts lobbying for a high priced veteran who might not buy into what he's selling. JG, Kadri, Forsberg aren't going to move the needle.

I do expect JVR to be shopped with money retained/veteran contract going the other way.

I don't expect scrub veterans to be signed, any decent ones require 2-3 year deals, and I don't think they want to make those commitments with all the young players on the roster and who will be at LHV this year.

A trade is more likely in December (similar to Johansen for Seth Jones) after Torts has evaluated the team and decided who isn't a good fit going foreard.
