Chuck's gonna do a lot less than expected, Torts sounds like a guy who wants to evaluate the talent on the team, and is not in a rush to add talent until he knows what he has on hand.

I don't expect a major FA signing, reports are they don't expect to make the playoffs this year nor do I see Torts lobbying for a high priced veteran who might not buy into what he's selling. JG, Kadri, Forsberg aren't going to move the needle.

I do expect JVR to be shopped with money retained/veteran contract going the other way.

I don't expect scrub veterans to be signed, any decent ones require 2-3 year deals, and I don't think they want to make those commitments with all the young players on the roster and who will be at LHV this year.

A trade is more likely in December (similar to Johansen for Seth Jones) after Torts has evaluated the team and decided who isn't a good fit going foreard.

Fletcher isn't going to be able to do much without being really stupid because he's f***ed the cap up so severely. I'm sure that doesn't matter somehow, though.

Nah, pressure's on. They're going to try hard to make a significant move. I can't remember where I heard it, probably 32 Thoughts, but there's chatter in the hockey community again that the Flyers are expected to be active this summer.

Fletcher has backtracked a bit, and Torts hasn't committed at all to making the playoffs in 2022-23.

Charlie noted weeks ago that they don't think they're a playoff team but want to be more competitive - and that Torts can deliver that by coaching up the young players.

What I think they want to avoid is the Sabres/Devils situation where expectations are that the team will be bad - and then players play down to those expectations - it's not just losing, it's losing in a dispirited fashion that turns off fans. In Philly, half-hearted play is unacceptable.

They're going to make an effort to improve and draw more/appease some fans. That doesn't mean I think they are gunning playoffs or bust, because I don't. I think they want progress and fan interest.

I completely agree they want to avoid a Sabres/Devils situation. It's easy for posters here to say they should tank the season, but the organization knows that they will lose the fanbase further with another season of being a dispirited punching bag.

You get outta here with that logic shit , we have no time for it .

That would be chucks 5th fireable offense now?
5th? That’s awfully generous. Hmm, by my count:
1. Signing Hayes
2. Hiring AV
3. Hiring Therrien
4. Grompson
5. The Ghost trade
6. The Risto trade
7. Making Lappy the Phantoms HC
8. Bringing back Thompson
9. Yandle
10. Extending Risto
11. Not replacing the entire training staff
12. Nor replacing the developmental staff

Already up to 12 and by October he could hit blackjack

Hague is a big (6'6) LH D-man.
He's been a 3rd pair guy there, I don't think he'd make sense for the Flyers.
I agree it doesn't seem like a fit for the Flyers -- unless they are trading Provorov.

Just thought I'd throw the report out there. A 23-year-old defenseman of Hague's size, draft capital, and shot/decent offensive tools isn't commonplace on the trade market.

With the whispers coming out in the last year about Provorov's ego and sensitivity (and his girlfriend, as well), and the Tortorella mention of a "splintered" locker room, could it be that Provorov is at the core of this divide? And does that increase the likelihood he's traded, or do they want to see if Tortorella can fix it?

Not going to deny that Provorov’s play and demeanor could rub some teammates the wrong way. However the fracture might be further caused by AV’s pets who were given undeserved PT which heavily contributed to losses. They were allowed to get in the way of the development of other players that had to grind on them. The Pets have to be gone

Anderson would be a good pick up at the right price, he was a much better player under Torts than he has been for the Habs.
Problem is he's an injury prone RH PF, we already have a cheaper one in Allison, with Foerster behind him.
So it doesn't make much sense for the Flyers.

Josh Anderson is 100% coming here right? Hes basically the forward version of Risto and has history with Torts... I really dont see how Chuck can resist.

TK for Anderson would be such a Flyers thing to do. Gross overpayment but we get "size" in return.

RW is our deepest position by far...but some how our 4 right wingers will be Atkinson, Tippett, Anderdon, and Macewen.... which is prob bottom 5 of RW in the league.

The Avs should make the NHL into a sellers market. When you see how good and young Makar is and then you see all of the great to good pieces around him. For the Flyers you’ll still need a dman that’s 75% of Makar, top line center, 2C LWs etc.

There is no right price for that player on that contract. If Montreal was retaining a significant amount, perhaps, but I would seriously prefer a different route.

It’s why you draft either Nemec or Jiricek and do not trade down. Get the best player available.

Unless you consider everyone from #5-10 pretty equivalent, then you want extra picks b/c the odds aren't great you'll get the best player (i.e. #8 could turn out better than #5).

If #5 is clearly better, then you stay put.

Given this team's track record, and that the conventional wisdom is that there is a significant dropoff after the first 5 players, I would be very, very uncomfortable hearing that they think the top end is deeper than that.

Any of the four plausibly available players (Slafkovsky, Cooley, Nemec, Jiricek) would be a great addition. I don't trust us to make out as well if we go off that board.

That said, I would be thoroughly unsurprised to hear that we traded JVR and #5 for #8 or something like that.

Provy was one of his pets. He didn't come off the PP until Yeo was coach.
