The most ridiculous thing is that so many people involved in management and advisement were here the last time they did this and, after years of being told it would inevitably collapse, it inevitably collapsed. It's happening again, but without being able to leverage it into a retool in any way and without compliance buyouts coming.

f***ing Hanrahan still holds an actual managerial position and still manages the salary cap, how is that tool not saying "yo, we did this once and it was bad, let's think this through?" Most likely the extent of his cap speciality is working a calculator or pulling up CapFriendly. Dude is probably as shocked now as he was when he found out about the 35+ with Pronger after the contract was signed.
In Hanrahan’s defense, his wife was a dyke after all

Imagine thinking you could count on the never healthy Allison and a rookie who missed most of last season with shoulder surgery to have major roles in 22-23.

It's not counting on anything. It's being pragmatic. We're not going anywhere. Might as well try the kids to see what we have. If they fail to live up to it or get hurt, then you live with that. You're not going anywhere anyway. One or more of the kids are a hit? Great, now you can start building around them.

Man, if CF doesn't find a way to unload JVR and sign JG who actually WANTS to come here, the level of universal hatred for him in Philly will be so ugly after having brought in a guy like TDA and bought out Lindblom.

I don't want Gaudreau cause I want the pain to end soon, but this would be so embarrassing to Chuckles it will be glorious !!

After everything else I just find it hard to imagine if push comes to shove he doesn’t move JVR and give up more than he’d like rather than stand pat

I think that being desperate to excite a fanbase with some move...

...after all you have done for the past few years was talk HITZ BIG BOOM KABOOM and making fun of cute plays, hiring John Tortorella, double down on Rasmus Ristolainen, running many fan favorites out of town, inevitably leaving you with just a couple of dinosaur fans (see those HF ones)...

...and trying to get that excitement by getting a Johnny Gaudreau (re: playing style), well, thats just screams plan.

Havent in past years, teams were allowed to talk to FAs before the start and all of the deals get leaked out the night before?

I really don't see it. I think he either takes a monster offer from Calgary or goes to you guys. Chuck will pull the trigger on a JVR deal if Johnny goes to UFA and is fully committed to Philly. I think the only way he goes to the Devils is if the Flyers set a hard limit at like 9.5 or something and the Devils go 11

We all know the Flyers need to go scorched earth, but if they wanted to go back to the bubble Giroux-Voracek years, everything about the last 12-18 months should've been about stockpiling assets for a Gaudreau retool, if that's what they envisioned. Not gut the roster, but aim for max assets, youth, picks, optionality. Gaudreau could be erased from existence, and they still should've done that.

Par for the course, it's all so embarrassingly slapdash. The Flyers have already invested so much wasteful term and salary -- along with picks stretching to 2024 -- that they can't move for value, while already taking a bath to do so, that they can't simply go scorched earth. Not without the creative vision they lack. If they get Gaudreau, a top 10-15 player, I guess you can stave off the sunk cost fallacy. If they don't? Then what the f*** are they even doing spending more and more assets, in recent past and near future, along with the opportunity cost of not cashing in on assets? This is a bottom 10 roster without Gaudreau, but they're not even asking for the check from the waiter yet.

Honestly, this team hasn't been interesting in probably 15 years. I'm getting way more entertainment watching this idiocy than I do actually watching the team. Chuck Fletcher FOREVER.
