Yup, that’s totally the only other option.

The sad thing is, you’re actually correct. With Chuck around, the only options are stupid, and even stupider
Oh, do I need to break this out again?

@FLYguy3911 break out the value in/out chart.

This has been building. It’s misguided to just blame it on recent events. They always take the path of least resistance with their moves. They don’t understand in a hard cap some times you just have to walk away even if you like the player. Your roster is always moving & you’re doing your best to stay ahead of the salary cap. They always put themselves in a position where they had to do it. That’s always the excuse because they’re too incompetent &/or lazy to work market efficiencies & find value.

The most ridiculous thing is that so many people involved in management and advisement were here the last time they did this and, after years of being told it would inevitably collapse, it inevitably collapsed. It's happening again, but without being able to leverage it into a retool in any way and without compliance buyouts coming.

f***ing Hanrahan still holds an actual managerial position and still manages the salary cap, how is that tool not saying "yo, we did this once and it was bad, let's think this through?" Most likely the extent of his cap speciality is working a calculator or pulling up CapFriendly. Dude is probably as shocked now as he was when he found out about the 35+ with Pronger after the contract was signed.

TDA creates a LOT of offense, just look at his xGF/60, which is a more stable metric than pp/60.

If JG was 26, I'd do what it takes to land him, but he's 29, do you think even with JG, the Flyers are more than a marginal playoff team the next three seasons? And at 32, making $10+M a year, he'll make Hayes' contract look like a bargain.

Only a year ago you were cherrypicking stats stripped of all necessary context to pump up the Risto trade.

Told us all how much better he would be with a change of scenery and playing under AV...that worked out well. Now it's "he's going to thrive playing for Torts"

The guy just sucks at hockey, nothing will make him better

He would have been better under AV if Elvis hadn't left the building.

Hanrahan is actually credited with writing the parameters of the salary cap, and is the person who first knew how to exploit it with LTIR. But I wonder how much of his job is to be a part of player evaluation. They didn't need him to say 'uh, you're gonna need to move JVR if you want these guys and Gaudreau,' people knew this day has been coming with JVR almost as soon as he signed the contract.

which means they can just blame Hextall for not getting Gaudreau

And McCrossin helped write the concussion protocols, letting him use that inside knowledge to skirt the rules and keep a blatantly concussed Schenn from even being tested; doesn't make him competent at his job, though.

im just so confused at what's going on...has he learned from his ghost trade that you shouldn't trade assets to dump a contract? But doesn't he want to be competitive this year and in the years to come? WHAT IS YOUR f***ING PLAN YOU POS

My source is back with some new info.

Gaudreau wants to come here. He will take slightly less per year than he would’ve in Calgary. Bottom line is he wants to come home. Flyers desperately want him to excite the fanbase. Devils are a backup plan and he’s not super enthused about living in the NYC area. The JVR deal will get done with Arizona or Buffalo. Fletcher is negotiating through the press right now but ultimately those teams want him and will give in.

Provorov is on the market but not likely to be moved unless they are blown away. He’s kind of a head case and not super popular in the room.

Fletcher and Clarke/Homer do not and have not seen eye to eye this offseason about much. Fletcher wants to rebuild more than he says publicly. Very likely he’s in his last season here with Briere as the replacement. He wanted to go into season with the likes of Brink, York, Allison, Foerster playing major roles and the old guard isn’t having it.

I know a certain poster on here has tried that approach already.

He has every bit of power and authority needed to fire them, much less ignore them. He's pathetically weak if that's true.

Imagine thinking you could count on the never healthy Allison and a rookie who missed most of last season with shoulder surgery to have major roles in 22-23.
