I also love certain posters hand waving how easy it will be to dump the current albatross contracts on the roster like Hayes and Fisto, while the reality of moving ONE(!) year of JVR is proving to be a herculean effort.
Moving JVR without retention is hard b/c teams are trying to fleece Fletcher, so far he's held his ground.
Two weeks into FA, things will change drastically as there are only a few goal scorers available, once they're off the board, JVR with $2M retained becomes very attractive.

Rakell at 6x5 v Laughton at 5x3.
Last three seasons:
pp/60 - xGF/60
Rakell (26-28) 1.71, 1.66, 1.67 - 2.55, 2.32, 2.78
Laughton (25-27) 2.55, 1.43, 1.60 - 2.09, 2.18, 2.56
Rakell has 6 years left on his deal, Laughton has 4.

Authetics are starting to see it finally:

Good. Shill Meltzer even had some tweets that weren't pure boot licking of the franchise, which is pretty much a scathing review by his standards.

As always, the media starting to turn on the team means the current regime is on it's last gasp. If only Clarke would be shown the door with them.

Why are they trying to fleece him? Could it be because he’s backed them into a corner and the entire league knows what he’s trying to do?

@FLYguy3911 break out the value in/out chart.

This has been building. It’s misguided to just blame it on recent events. They always take the path of least resistance with their moves. They don’t understand in a hard cap some times you just have to walk away even if you like the player. Your roster is always moving & you’re doing your best to stay ahead of the salary cap. They always put themselves in a position where they had to do it. That’s always the excuse because they’re too incompetent &/or lazy to work market efficiencies & find value.

I look forward to moving Fisto and Hayes' contracts, because apparantly other GM's will stop trying to fleece the Flyers and they will be much easier to move. Those contracts, mean 'ol other teams will bend over for us.

I for one am glad this team blew it's wad on Hayes and Fisto instead of waiting for a player like JG. Slow and steady keeps the franchise irrelevant I always say.

If the Flyers are forced to go with youth, they'll have plenty of cap room, in which case they have the edge in negotiations b/c they can afford to retain some salary and therefore have plenty of suitors.

A healthy Hayes at $5M, Risto at $3-4M, etc. will have plenty of takers.

Which is why I don't want them to sign FAs this offseason, hoard that cap room and use it to deal, and use those 2nd and 3rd rd picks to target RFAs that are too expensive for their current teams to keep instead of drafting the next Laberge and Ratcliffe.

if only we ddint sign risto/TDA, we would have 10 million lol

and if we arent getting JG, don't sign another player to a long term contract. Just ride the season and be a shit team, trade jvr + 50% retention for picks, trade any asset for more picks, and go into the 23 draft strong. Thats too much for this management tho

I really don’t see Fletcher’s leverage changing with JvR. There’s a small group of teams that can absorb that full contract it’s not like they’re teams positioned to be anything special next year. So they’re likely not looking at JvR from an on ice value standpoint. So no reason for them to drop the hard line stance.

A team like Buffalo might also be looking to spend some money and maybe they won’t then have the space to eat the whole thing

I think Chuck absolutely has to land JG at this point and had to do anything, not that I want him to, to land him. I mean sure he is dead man walking at this point..but they will sell even less tickets with what they have now

Ahhhh yes, worse players than JVR signed for much longer will be much easier to move. That and other teams will magically start being nice to the Flyers because they feel bad for us. Or something.

Makes complete sense. Surely this is the way of it. Surely.

Plenty of takers....just like you said it'd be easy to move JvR....how's that working out?
