The authentics are now trying to convince themselves that somehow signing Gaudreau is akin to the Rangers signing Panarin. Not realizing the Rangers spent the years leading up to that clearing out contracts/cap space while accumulating assets. The Flyers have spent the last few years adding contracts/capspace while trading away assets.

Your ability to add at least in the short term given your cap picture so Gaudreau (you have another big UFA deal due potentially in Sanheim) & what’s currently on the roster/organization is about the best you’re gonna be able to do.

I wouldn’t be against Gaudreau if there was an actual realistic pathway to meaningful success. But this is where Fletcher making multiple bad UFA deals previously on bad to mediocre players hurt.

I'm starting to wonder what Danny "special advisor to the GM" Briere is actually doing ... or not doing because he likes to watch Chuck digging his own grave with this org.

If anything, the moves have only gotten worse since he's come on board...they sure as hell haven't gotten better.

He's there for optics and to collect a paycheck. The only reason they brought him on board when they did was to throw water on the raging fire surround the team at the time.

When Ghost was producing years ago were people complaining about this defense? If Tony D doesn't produce offensively then his positive contributions will be minimal at best

Ghosts defense is way better than TDA's.

That's part of why this is so absurdly bad, it comes on the heels of ditching a player who is better overall. Ghost carried pairings, TDA, needs carrying.

No, I am not ignoring the offensive side of his game. I have to specifically ponder it while gauging whether it's enough to cancel him being a black hole on defense.

He is literally Ristolainen with better offense. That's what he is. Of course he's better than Ristolainen, but that doesn't make him worth the haul and price considering he needs pretty specific circumstances to be workable and we can't provide that without digging a hole elsewhere.
The price to me was not high at all. The contract is also in line. Now a better GM probably gets it a little lower no doubt.

As I said we shall see if his offense outweigh the D lapses. I think it will. At the end of the day it wont matter as the team is not good.

Just to be clear here, most (from my vantage point) of the anger towards buying out Lindblom comes from the position that Chuck has put the team in where it's required. He's backed them into a corner because of his moronic decisions.
I have to assume that at least twice this week, Chuck’s gotten lost in an empty room because he thought it was a maze.

Theyre going to sign him and the front office is going to be throwing a party like the won the cup already. You mention the authentics, and you're right, but I am certain the front office is doing the same thing

Can’t blame anyone for not watching any games last season, especially in the latter half. But to say Lindblom wasn’t serviceable as a bottom 6er or not looking anything like his former self, is absolutely disingenuous.
$3M for a serviceable bottom six player in a flat cap world just doesn’t work.

Like Football Team did with Williams. The parallels never stop.

He wasn't. He had some of the best defensive results on the team. He drove transition. The team was noticeably worse when they foolishly benched him. He managed to drag Hagg around while doing it.

Ghost can actually retrieve a puck himself and then move it up ice. TDA needs someone to get the puck for him. Provorov isn't that guy anymore, and he needs York, Sanheim can do it but that would leave Risto unmitigated.

You yourself admitted it's an overpay. An overpay for a player who is best in a situation we c as nt realistically provide and at that cap hit is a terrible move. It makes no sense.

By the time tomorrow is done, they're likely no longer able to strip things down anyway.

4 more years of Hayes
5 more years of Risto
5 more years of Ellis
8 more years of Couturier, but he should be tradeable.
Sanheim will be heading to UFA and have limited trade value.
4 more years of Laughton who may or may not be tradeable without retention.
3 more years of Atkinson.
5+ more years of the big free agency signing.

The credit cards are hitting their max unless the coming cap increases are significant.

Can I please spam Flyers twitter with this post ?

Ghosts defense is beyond terrible. Quit trying to play it at all when he went to Arizona. Plays the rover position now. TDA is not good defensively but light years ahead of ghost now.
