JvR still scored 24 goals last on one of the worst teams in the league. His underlying numbers were pretty decent too despite the negativity around him. He’s not worth $7M caphit anymore but this isn’t some complete albatross situation like others. He’s still a useful hockey player even if he’s overpaid. It’s also just one year left.

So this isn’t a situation where you’re paying like Milan Lucic or some shit to go away where he’s barely hanging onto a lineup spot & the contract attached plays a big part of why he even has the spot in the first place.

The Flyers are paying good draft capital for players that are still useful albeit overpaid to go away. JvR probably has another 20+ goal season in him & depending where he could go he could even see some point improvement compared to last year. After the Gostisbehere situation last year the optics like it or not is that they’re ending up with yoke in their faces.

It already happened once…

A buyout does nothing for them. They have to clear that full $7M of JvR’s contract to have a chance with Gaudreau.

Thats what frustrates me. JVR is a good player and could actually help a team who needs some scoring depth. I actually think hed fit in real well with a team like the Devils.

This past TDL was a huge missed oppurtunity. I really think thry couldve gotten a pick for JVR if they retained on his salary for last season and this season. Thats at least 3.5 mil space saved. Had they traded risto, theyd get another couple of picks and another 5 mil in cap space.

Instead of walking out with a bunch of cap space and multiple assets...they hand tied themselves.

I really want Johnny. It seems like he wants to come home and I love having a player of his level pick being here. They couldve made it easy...but now theyre gonna have to make some real dumb moves to fit him in

They had JvR at 50% retention last summer into this season up to the deadline & they weren’t getting much bites according to Charlie & ASF. Teams wanted an asset even back then.

According those guys as well Seattle wanted an asset to select JvR at the expansion draft too.

Sam’s a moron so who knows about the source but logically it’s probably not wrong.

Would anybody want Coututier, Hayes, Ellis, etc. currently in a cap crunched environment? Couturier is obviously the best of the bunch & most like to rehab his stock next season but this is a what have done for me lately league for better or worse & that’s a lot of commitment.

Front and center!

Anthony Dimarco was right! #insiderrr

You rarely see anyone traded with 2 years on their contract, people either want a foundation player on a cost controlled deal (but usually in the summer) or someone in the last year of their deal. That's why Ghost and Voracek had negative value.

I don't want JG b/c this is actually a young team that could get younger and free up a lot of cap room over the next year or two if things go wrong - but with JG on board with a 7 year deal at 29, Couts at 30, that's $18-19M tied up for 7 season. One thing if they were legitimate contenders, but I'd rather go with the kids and make decisons next summer based on their performance.

I'm not sure if Provorov would get claimed either at his current cap hit after the past few seasons.

Lindblom is iffy too but i'm still a believer in him and he had a good 2nd half.

I still can't believe we had the chance to acquire a first for Risto and instead re-signed him for for FIVE YEARS at FIVE MILLION per year. You wanna talk about screwing over the next GM of the Flyers.... Hayes at 7 million for four more years, Ellis at 6.25 for five more years, Risto I mentioned, Laughton at 3 million for four more years, TDA at 5 million for two years. MAYBE Couturier comes back and is good but still, that's 7.75 million for EIGHT years. What a dumpster fire this team is.

I think that’s too rich. I’m not even a huge Provorov fan but he would get claimed.

I think that person was more so speaking to their older/bigger UFA deals.

It’s sounds like Konecny, Provorov, & Sanheim are really the only trade chips they have that’s contracts can be moved & bring in some value with listening Friedman, Charlie, ASF, etc. on podcasts over time.

ASF says/talks like Lindblom could be headed for waivers eventually for their season opener cap juggling. I don’t know if it’s his opinion or it’s based off a feeling from people within the front office but he acts like there isn’t much interest around the league with Lindblom on a $3M caphit & he would clear.

Yeah I guess due to age and possibility of turning him around, he would still get claimed.

I have no idea why they won't just buy out JVR and Lindblom. At this point, they have cheaper replacements from the AHL that would do about as much and buying out both would save the Flyers 6M in cap. Want size in JVR's position? Play Ratcliffe or Allison.

While it is crazy watching the Hawks have almost no real players left (real, proven NHLers), they are doing what they can to shed bad to medicore players and overall bad contract scenarios.

In a way, I kind of wish the Flyers were this ballsy, but they are going to ride the cap ceiling into last place.

And given the fact that he played here with this mess, and given the fact that he can play a ton of minutes. I still think he can turn it around if he's not paired with absolute dog sh!t and not on the PP.

I suspect a lot of this comes down to knowing Fletcher is an easy mark
