Friedman made it sound like it’s dead in the water. He made it sound like Chicago prioritized the 5th overall pick as the main piece of a deal.

My guess is the Flyers wouldn’t/won’t give them their 2023 first rounder without protection so that becomes less valuable compared certainty with the fifth overall pick this year. Speculation on my part again but perhaps they had a player in mind for the #5 spot, perhaps one of the defensemen who could be there.

It’s absolutely laughable to think that either Debrincat or JG or even both, would move the needle at all for this team.

Thanks! Best hockey thought of the day.........

I have been getting ready for an estate sale and moving to FL. So what I say is probably been said before.

I have read some of the insanity. Either the rumors are insane, CF is insane, or people in general are insane.

Maybe we do live in the Matrix after all.

Perhaps Paul is the Walrus.......

Agree 100% but depending on the price if you can acquire a guy like DeBrincat do it (or JG but I'd be more focused on DeBrincat). Yes, that doesn't make this team a contender and yes they will still be bottom feeding this season barring any other big splashes but adding a 24 year old DeBrincat seemingly is a better investment in the future than adding a first round pick who in four years might be an NHLer.

EDIT: This is not saying we should trade the #5 pick for him. If the price is right you do it. #5 OA is not the price.

Thats a little dramatic. Adding two 1st line players to a team with only one 1st line player (coots) would absolutely improve the team. Having AD and JG on the PP alone would be a massive upgrade.

If you stacked the first line with all three of them...thats a top 10 first line in the league.

The problem with the Flyers is A) they need to add two first line players to be competitive and B) they put themselves in a position to need such talent but have no clear path to add it.

You are just very naïve imo. Torts is lucky to have a job as no one else was interested. IMO he will not rock the boat. If the GM has a chance to acquire an elite player he will do it no matter what the coach says.

So if JG wants to come here (agrees to a deal) and Torts say no. What do you think the outcome ends up being?

Fletcher got Av his players, how did that work out? So maybe he says to himself I will get who I want and up to the coach to adapt to fit them in.
Torts is 64, has $16M guaranteed, has his name on the Cup, he ain't kowtowing to anyone.
They knew that when they hired him.

Fletcher is not going to force a player on Torts, that would be stupid, you hire a HC to win games, you don't get him players he doesn't think can help him win.

Yet you didn't answer the question I posed. You are very delusional. All good either way.

Yet Fletcher according to you got AV the players he wanted and it blew up in is face. As well as got rid of players he didn't want. So yeah I can def see him going down that path again. So if Torts doesn't want JG and the GM does who wins that tug of war?

If he ain't kowtowing then why not make him GM as well?

The idea that Torts is going to veto Fletcher signing Gaudreau as a free agent is laughable.

Farabee and TK are first line players, Farabee actually scores at a higher rate as DeBrincat 5x5.
Last two seasons:

JG 3.00 pp/60, 1.12 goals
DeBrincat 2.01, 1.00
TK 2.15, 0.66
Farabee 2.42, 1.23

Didn't say that. Odds are Torts would like JG, though depends what it takes to clear the cap room.
Torts had no problem with Panarin, who emerged as a star in his second season under Torts.

Not as sure about DeBrincat, last season was the first where he started playing a complete game, though that may also reflect getting away from Colliton as HC.

JG is also a better fit as a LW, who is used to playing with Hayes, allows you to keep the first line together, put JG with Hayes and Atkinson and roll two top lines.

Farabee isn't going to be ready to start the season, and he wouldn't play ahead of JG in the lineup anyway.

You don't spend $9-10m on a free agent and then put them on the 2nd line with a 45 point center instead of the 1st line with your 70 point center.

He kowtowed plenty in Columbus. He isn't the GM. He is the coach. He'll try to use the players he's given even if they're not his idea of ideal players, just like he always has his whole career.

Apparently you also hire a HC to be the GM. :snide:
Nah. More like "Torts, so and so is available, would you be interested?"

A) nah, he's an asshole, uncoachable, I know he's talented but I don't need the headache
B) yeah, I've heard good things about him, always gave us fits when we played them . . .

Torts isn't manning the phones, but I'm sure he's putting in his input, players he likes, the kind of player they need, but right now I suspect he's not lobbying to add much until he sees the team in TC and has a feel for their current players.

Suffering from some incredibly painful back spasms today. Still probably doesn’t hurt as much as the pain Cuck’s gonna give me over the next few weeks.

Oh happy day

Did you sleep with an Isabelle, mother to a Sean Gerald Couturier - in some sort of drug induced event in the early 90s.

These things can be genetically influenced.
