Some of the hot takes:
1) Chuck is salivating to add "big bruisers."
2) Chuck is going to make a huge splash
3) Chuck is going to do this without consulting Torts
Flyers under Chuck haven't exactly added a bunch of big physical players, Risto and MacEwen. That's about it. Kevin Hayes is big in the same sense that Voracek is big, and basically replaced Jake in the size department. TB has added more size than Fletcher the last three seasons.
Chuck talks about 2019 as his template, 2nd and 3rd rd picks for a veteran D, a swap of veteran D, and signing a 2C. Not quite the same as trading/signing a premier player. If Ellis can't play, one candidate to pick up might be Schultz on the Pens on a one year deal, especially if they draft one of the RHDs and want to buy a year for them to mature.
Chuck has already said he's not making any NHL personnel moves without consulting Torts.
Torts doesn't have a history of lusting for veteran scrubs or bruisers.
His ideal forwards are a combination of quick, skilled players and two way physical players with a modicum of skill and good speed.
His D-men tend to be mobile and jump up on offense.
In Columbus, he had one big D-man in Savard, one big forward in Anderson who could skate.
He's already got Risto, he has Ratcliffe, Allison as big forwards.
TK, Atkinson, Brink as his undersized, skilled forwards.
Cates, Lindblom, Tippett fit his template of "support" wings.
