It’s baffling that Fletcher’s teams don’t have more success given the guy never makes bad moves.

Stone plays at my course and was walking with group in front of us today. He can’t golf and still can’t lift more than 10 lbs. his surgery was few months ago ? Farabee ain’t playing before Xmas I bet.

How long was Eichel out?

Because there's likely a handful of teams (hello, California?) that give up an actual asset for McDonagh. He's very highly thought of in front offices. It might just be a B asset, but I doubt they're this desperate.
I'm not suggesting we wouldn't also be giving up assets in the deal, we would absolutely have to, just that Ellis for McDonagh, as the cap element of the deal, would only cost the Flyers an extra $500K, and would free up roughly $6.2M against TB's cap towards either Palat's new deal or a Cirelli extension. I don't know what kind of assets would balance the deal, especially since the benefit from their perspective is to shed salary for current roster pieces, but I imagine there would be something.

I just don't see why Tampa would want a big LTIR contract. Either the Flyers give up a lot more assets to the point of silliness, or Tampa can get assets from another team and not use LTIR. I mean I don't want anything to do with McDonagh's contract. 33 years old and 4 years at $6.75 mil for this mediocre team? Pass. He also has a full NTC, I believe. But I can't imagine the appeal of Ellis for them.

Eichel had surgery Nov 12. Played February 17. So Farabee, June 24. October 1st return? At worst by the end of October.

"The surgery was a success, and Eichel was back to skating only a month after surgery. He made his debut for the Knights in February, three months after he underwent the operation. Had he undergone a fusion procedure, he would have been sidelined for at least six months. Interestingly, three months after Eichel’s surgery, Chicago Blackhawks center Tyler Johnson became the second player in league history to undergo an artificial disc replacement operation. Johnson returned to the ice earlier this month after a three-month recovery, noting that he feels “unbelievable” since having the disc replaced with an artificial implant."

Pre draft - free agency crap lineup.

Line 1 LW Van Riemsdyk C Couturier RW Atkinson
Line 2 LW Laughton C Hayes RW Konecny
Line 3 LW Lindblom C Frost RW Brink
Line 4 LW N. Cates C Brown RW Tippett

1st Pair LD Provorov RD Attard
2nd Pair LD Sanheim RD Ristolainen
3rd Pair LD York RD Seeler

Goalies:
Starter: Hart
Backup: Sandstrom

Scratches:
RW MacEwen
G Fedotov < ???
LW Farabee + Spinal Surgery 3-4 months
RD Ellis + LTIR

Much work to be done to retool this roster as many spots should be filled by better players outside of the organization.

Flyers need just about everything with the exception of RW. Right Defense is probably the biggest need.

Eichel is a far better player than Farabee, and he wasn't himself when he came back. We'll see if Farabee hits the ground running.
Well, this may have contributed to his slow recovery:

"Playing with a broken thumb for the final six weeks of the season and skating in Pete DeBoer’s defensive-minded system certainly contributed to Eichel’s inability to hit his stride."

Doubt there's much connection to the surgery, even with the hip bone connected to the . . .

They already have Seabrook's $6.875M on LTIR, and as far as I'm aware, he's not coming back off. Short of them paying the Coyote Special price for someone to take Seabrook away, I don't believe they're capable of making a day 1 roster cap compliant without using LTIR, so they're locked in to the cap limitations that come with that. If they're already going to have to be in LTIR, somewhat perversely, the best thing to do is to be appallingly over the cap, because that maximizes that LTIR space. Now, if another team is able to pay for McDonagh without returning any cap to TB at all, obviously that's better for them. The biggest obstacle is that McDonagh probably immediately says no to coming here. But there are cap reasons why taking a big LTIR contract in exchange for a big active roster contract could benefit a team that cannot be cap compliant on day 1.

I absolutely think they'll bring in a veteran defenseman on a minimum or low cost deal. Mdz and torts have history or maybe the new assistant brings schenn over from Vancouver if they explore trade options. Stanley cup winner who doesn't mind being in and out of the line up

If Ellis is really out, it changes the dynamics.

It gives Fletcher and Torts the leeway to go to Scott and caution against making major moves this summer, b/c they're still not good enough to chase a playoff spot.

It also shifts the balance in the draft toward one of the RHDs if all else is equal.

Don't think the Flyers would chase McDonagh, he's primarily a LHD, can play the right side on a spot basis but that's about it.
With Provorov, Sanheim, York and Zamula, he wouldn't be a good fit.
If they go for a veteran, it'll be a RHD.
unless their planning on trading Provy or Sanheim .... which with this org is likely.... we flat our suck.. go for the f***ing high first in 2023.... I like Torts but it makes no fuc*** sense with this shitty roster..

They would have gotten at least a 1st for Risto, and maybe more, physical RHDs go at a premium at the TDL.
Chariot garnered a 2023 1st, 2022 4th and Smilanic
Manson got Helleson and 2023 2nd
Chiarot has actually played in playoff games and won series before. Risto just imagines that he’ll be good in the postseason.

The 13th overall pick in 2021 has a lot more value when it’s traded just before the draft, than a 2023 1st from the league’s best regular season team has at the 2022 deadline.

This roster would mean Allison, Laczynski and Ratcliffe all going on waivers.
