Seeler is either in the press box or LHV, when they brought up the kids, they all played more minutes than Seeler the last 20 games.

I don't think they'll trade for a veteran, if Ellis is out, maybe a veteran RHD on a short-term deal.
But after seeing Attard adjust so quickly, I think at the very least they'd want to see him in the 3RHD role.
I mean he has some top level offensive skills, and is a good complement to their mobile but undersized LHDs.
We disagree. They will def get a vet D. No doubt in my mind. Ellis will be out.

Ivan - ?
Sanheim -Risto
York - ?

That is how I see it. That is why no way they have Attard or Zamula in the lineup.

Yeah, I agree with blackjack. The Flyers will be adding a defenseman to fill Ellis' absence.

Well you lack common sense if you think Kevin Hayes has any say in the roster.

Actually, many GM have went on record saying they consult with their leadership players on certain decisions.

Do i think Hayes is sitting beside Flutch manning phones and executing veto power? No

Do i think Flutch asked him about certain players? Absolutely

I think Hayes lobbied Fletcher hard for Yandle. I think that's the only move the Flyers made where Hayes was a legitimate factor.

And there were easy reasons for Fletcher to talk himself into it (I know I did): Cheap, Yandle was coming off a year where he was still a top PP producer, and a great locker room guy.

And I have no doubt Fletcher severely regrets it.

My take is Hayes had no say in any move. That's all.

Now yes I won't be shocked if he asked him his opinion on players.

The only player who probably could exercise a veto is Couts (and G last season).
Hayes doesn't have that kind of pull in the organization, never did.

AV wanted his former players, almost all HCs do, b/c they don't have to put the work into coaching up those guys and they can act as a go-between it the clubhouse. He wanted Yandle for the same role that Ghost bridled at filling (3LHD, PP 1 QB).

Atkinson will play that role for Torts, filling in players informally on what to expect in training camp and during the season.

Ghost was moved because they thought it was a good idea to pay a 1st, two 2nds and Hagg to replace him with a worse defenseman in Ristolainen. Predictably, the PP got worse and so did the defense.
Ghost was moved b/c AV didn't like him.

Risto was added b/c AV likes to balance his pairs and they needed a RHD, and the PTB thought the team was "too soft."

Risto was added because Fletcher has lusted after him for at minimum half a decade.

How did AV manage to get him extended after being fired?
How did the extension come days after Fletcher talked about moving him at the TDL and had "lowballed" him?

Was Fletcher in danger of a broken heart or did he get a call from the PTB that said we can't lose a player who hits people?

Because Fletcher caved to Risto's demands.

The return on offer for Risto at the deadline wasn't going to be close to what he paid, so to try and not look stupid he agreed to a $25.5m extension.

"If you're going to move the 13th overall pick, either by itself or as part of a package, you better be getting a really good player that can help you for a few years," Fletcher said this month.

"We're obviously banking on that and we like the skill set that he brings. There's still an important role for size and physicality in this game. He's a guy that's been able to put some points up, he can skate, he can move the puck. He's still a pretty young man that like any 25-, 26-, 27-year-old, these guys can still improve. It's still a tough position to learn."

Why do you trust what Fletcher says instead of observing his actions?

ASF, “I don’t think Ellis plays this season. Or in the first half of this season. Ellis is not close, bad injury that’s not getting better”

“Plan is to put him on LTIR when able. Team wanted him to get surgery, he doesn’t”

“They don’t want to say more about his health condition until after making moves. Scared it would hurt their negotiating efforts”

Lol this dude in a wheelchair or what.

I guarantee that there is not another team in the league where the GM talks about wanting to acquire a player, trades for that player, extends him for 5 years, and then there are fans who say, well the GM didn't really want that player, someone else in the organization did. That insanity is localized entirely to this board.

Bonus funny quote from a player who turns 28 in October and has NEVER played in a playoff game:

"I've been thinking about it for a while the last few seasons because where I think I'm at my best is when I play meaningful games and then I see myself as a playoff type of player. :loony: Not that young anymore, but still young. :wally: But I need to get some meaningful games and try to make the playoffs. I think Philly, they're very close, right up there to battling those playoff spots.":blah:

I know it's probably not happening, but with TB desperate for cap space, I wonder if there's an opportunity to send them Ellis for McDonagh? McD coming off their active cap would be a huge help in resigning their active guys, and with Seabrook already essentially retired on their end, pushing their LTIR into the stratosphere on day 1 probably doesn't hurt them as badly as it would other teams.

Because there's likely a handful of teams (hello, California?) that give up an actual asset for McDonagh. He's very highly thought of in front offices. It might just be a B asset, but I doubt they're this desperate.

He's not getting surgery because he has no intention of playing for the Flyers. He'd rather his career end and collect his $6+ million per season. Plenty of time to work on his beard, or go fishing, or whatever the hell he does to pass the time.

They would have gotten at least a 1st for Risto, and maybe more, physical RHDs go at a premium at the TDL.
Chariot garnered a 2023 1st, 2022 4th and Smilanic
Manson got Helleson and 2023 2nd

So, Chuck could have gotten a 1st but decided instead to re-up him to a contract that will handcuff the team for the next 5 years? Brilliant!

If Ellis is really out, it changes the dynamics.

It gives Fletcher and Torts the leeway to go to Scott and caution against making major moves this summer, b/c they're still not good enough to chase a playoff spot.

It also shifts the balance in the draft toward one of the RHDs if all else is equal.

Don't think the Flyers would chase McDonagh, he's primarily a LHD, can play the right side on a spot basis but that's about it.
With Provorov, Sanheim, York and Zamula, he wouldn't be a good fit.
If they go for a veteran, it'll be a RHD.
