Skeptical Stillman makes it with the meh start of his season plus the fact that he missed his 3rd game today.

Not sure if it was due to illness or injury but it won’t help his case.

Jordan Dumais and his teammate Tucker Robertson are two RWs who could/should make it over him (unless bloodlines get them to take the worse player).

Craig Button's projection of Canada's WJC squad has Brennan and Stillman: Young stars Fantilli and Bedard headline Button's projected WJC roster - TSN.ca

Off hand it seems like a below average crop for Team Canada this year.

Not really Devils specific but it looks Team Canada will have an OHL GM and a WHL coach. One thing that stood out from Button's projected lineup was a lack of RHD outside of Ceulemans. Team Canada's GM is from the Ottawa 67's and they have a RHD named Jack Matier (Nashville 4th rounder) who's off to a nice start this season.

Devils' website did a story about draft pick Artem Shlaine last week.

He scored his sixth goal of the season for Northern Michigan last night as the Wildcats completed a sweep of one-win Lake Superior State.

The CCHA is considered to be a notch below Hockey East, where he played his first two seasons for UConn.

He is one off from his goal total last season.
Anything to see here?
Shlaine has upside as a 4th line center who can check and win draws, but he likely doesn't have the wheels or skill for a top 9 role.

Owen Beck is making this team.

Utica could use centers for sure, so there’s that.
AHL center is indeed the most likely scenario for Artem Shlaine.

I know your not much of a "goalie guy" but who do you think would get the most starts out of those three goalies? Do you think Brennan could take top spot?
I feel Benjamin Gaudreau would be the favorite to start for Team Canada, because he's a year older than Brennan and has more polish and international experience. I do feel that Brennan has the most upside of the young Canadian goaltenders being considered for the 2023 WJC squad.

Another weekend split for Michigan; even when the talent in the lineup suggests they should dominate.

This was an issue last season with Pearson and seems to be an issue again this season.

Michigan has high end talent up top but their depth players are standard for NCAA. Not unusual to see young skill get neutralized to a degree by older/physically stronger teams.

I was surprised to hear Chayse Primeau's name last weekend since I didn't know he transferred to Notre Dame. Primeau turned 25 last month, so I had assumed he had gotten an AHL contract somewhere. Notre Dame is led by its upperclassmen whereas Michigan's top guys are freshmen/sophomores.

I remember former Wisconsin coach Mike Eaves lamenting that it was a double edged sword to get prospects with NHL upside. Most would only stay 1 or 2 years so it was hard to build any continuity.

That sounds like a basketball coach talking.

So last year everyone was all about Gritsyuk. Quick look at his hockeydb and the numbers are WAY down. Is that a team thing or has he regressed?

At this point, I just want to see him on North American ice. One thing to note is that he's shooting an abnormally low 4.5% this season (3 goals on 66 shots) so that's usually a safe bet to rebound. Last year he shot 15.8% (arguably abnormally high), so maybe just another case of shooting percentage not being as consistent as we'd like to think (ie Jesper Bratt's first five years in the NHL saw his shooting percentage go up and down like a rollercoaster).

I agree with all of this but if Frank Nazar was healthy instead of maybe out for the whole season after surgery then Michigan would be a way more terrifying team.

Not only was he a huge loss but I’m personally bitterly disappointed that I don’t get to see him play when I watch Luke. I was really looking forward to seeing that.

Ugh. Hopefully he gets back with a full recovery.

It's nice to see Casey pretty much neck and neck in scoring with Luke. I hadn't realized until the other day that Casey was only 5'9. He could be a "Rafalski" type I suppose (I'm no scout), but not likely to be a real physical defensive defenseman obviously. A fine pick in the 2nd round though.

Casey’s a string bean too at 162, but goddamn I didn’t realize Rafalski was sitting at 200 being 5’10”. Absolute unit.
