Dear hfboards devils fellas. Hope you will help me to pump the topic on twitter if you can and if you want.

I know, this guy isn`t devils prospect, but I really want he will be.

Nikolayev is 22 yo goalie. With 94.6% in KHL
He was best or one of the best on every level for his age and he was great every time.
He is athletic, mobile, good positionally.

I hope you will help me to and support me with a like or comment to bring this topic to the Devils bloggers. The goalkeeping problem is obvious, its impact is huge and visible to the naked eye. And its possible solution lies on the surface. I hope for your understanding and empathy.

The big question would be Nikolayev's contract situation with the KHL. If we were allowed to sign this spring (big assumption on my part), he'd have to sign a 2 year ELC.

So the next hurdle would be convincing him to sign with us versus another team offering a similar deal. Since it's an ELC, there's only so much salary you could guarantee, so it would come down to playing time.

I'm sure some teams would toss their hat in the ring. Just a quick scan:

San Jose: Reimer is UFA after the season, Kahkonen wasn't acquired by current GM Mike Grier. Evgeni Nabokov is their goalie coach, so maybe that could give them a bit of a leg up. I think Nabokov helped recruit another former SKA goalie Alexei Melnichuk to sign with San Jose but that didn't pan out. But San Jose's pitch could be that they have an open NHL spot immediately without a prospect on the horizon.

Los Angeles: Quick is UFA after the season, mostly middling prospects in the AHL. Would be more competitive in the short term than San Jose.

Colorado: Kinda slumming it in net this season, Francouz is UFA after 2023-24. Maybe a B+ goalie prospect in Justus Annunen in the AHL, but could promise Nikolayev a legitimate look as an NHL option.

St. Louis: Greiss is UFA after this season, not sure if Joel Hofer is ready for NHL yet.

Montreal: Wide open depth chart.

Tampa Bay: Elliott UFA after season, contending window still open. Obviously entrenched #1 with Vasilevskiy, but could offer a backup spot immediately.

-----------------

Might be tough for Fitz to put his job on the line on an unproven goalie as well.

I don't see how "proven" goalies works well enough.

And ofcourse I wait big battle for Nikolayev this summer or after two years, if he will sign another deal with SKA.

Besides @Brodeur brilliant breakdown and feedback, what’s the game plan here? How can we help? I know a guy. Say the word and there’s a horse on Fitz‘s bed. It won’t be dead because I don’t condone cruelty to animals, but it’ll send a message alright.

A live horse would have much more impact anyway. I remember a scene in Airplane….

Saw a lot of talk about Luke Hughes and Seamus Casey after the Michigan-BU series.

Any word on BU's Case McCarthy?

I thought that a possible active reaction and questions to devils bloggers about the goalkeeping problem might raise some noise. The significance of this problem is great and obvious. And the Devils are competing with their enemies from New York, who already have a good Russian goalkeeper. Both teams from New York. Another Russian goalie also succeeded with his team from the south. It would be good to try to somehow raise the discussion of the goalie problem, to start talking about possible solutions, including discussing Nikolaev as a possible option.
But if you can touch Fitz directly, cut people's heads, burn woods, blow the moon up, I don`t care, let Fitz spend the time of his scouts and agents to offer the most interesting terms to Nikolaev. At least let them pay attention to him. Nikolaev is not drafted and no one has rights of him, all that needs to be done is to negotiate with him and sign.

I think the Devils need to see how Blackwood and the AHL goalies play this year. If we’re cutting bait with Blackwood after this year and neither of the AHL goalies put up star worthy numbers, the Devils should be in the goalie market and should be an attractive destination.

Cool.
In all seriousness, he plays with Bardakov so their scouts should at least have some knowledge of him. If Bernier is off the books next season and one or both of VV and MBW are subpar this season, they’ll need to look around. Makes me wonder if going into European for a goaler is in the plans cause there are none in NA worth picking up these days🤔

I checked out some of his other highlights in thread: G Dmitri Nikolayev - SKA St. Petersburg, KHL (2018 undrafted)

He looks like a fun watch. Some brilliant stops and second effort saves.

This highlight reminds me of another goalie... trying to place it...

My man Pasic was back at it again, he scored the 1st goal and the only one in the shoot out in a 3-2 victory.

Random Swedes translated and highlights from the vocal super fan from Twitter, as usual.

No offense to the Swedish Twitter posters, but it doesn't seem very likely that Pasic is very high on the Devils' priority list - if he is even on their depth chart any more.

Tyler Brennan so far for the Prince Geoege Cougars of the WHL stats so far this seasons are as follows.

GP = 4 (has appeared in 4 games , 2 Wins + 1 Loss , Sv% = .937 , GAA = 1.72

Small sample size but the SV% and GAA are good for any league let alone any CHL league.

Everyone to Salminen:

Ok, at least me.

If anyone sees Pytlik anywhere, give a holler.

I hate this freakin covid "events". We know about Pytlik and how his career was crushed by this mess. But how many young hockey players lost their groove of development? Very sad page in the sport for many people who was trying to build their life on the sport fundamential, lost their time, money, health. Can`t find right words. I believe Wright losted something in his development, that what caused the whole wave. Hope most of the young players will find powers for rebuild their careers.

My man Pasic has been picking up points in every game, because that’s all he knows how to do now, but he scored in Södertälje SK’s 3-2 win today so we get a GIF and more random translated Swedish Tweets. You know you want it!

And Jaromir Pytlik has finally shown up in a game!

I couldn’t find info about him anywhere but I admittedly don’t know any good sources for Czech hockey news.

The only thing I knew was Elite Prospects had a red cross next to his name so he was presumably injured.

He played for LHK Jestřábi Prostějov in the Chance Liga. He played 14:54 (all even strength) and got 2 assists in 2-1 OT win. So nice job.
