Which past champ? None of them really had fighters over the last 4 years.

Some have physicality/grit... but not as much as your suggesting.

I agree we could use a little physicality on the back end.... up front i think were plenty physical.

Every time you say "fighters" its another strawman. Just nonsense.

Most cup/playoff teams have a guy like Maroon. WIlson, or even Reaves. Not "fighters" but guys who are big, play the body, and will fight if needed. Col actually had a fighter (MacDermid) and a bunch of pretty tough guys besides Manson (Landeskog, J. Johnson, E Johnson). Tampa Bay didn't win the cup until they added guys like that and they have a lot of big players to complement the waterbugs.

Terry and Zegras aren’t Verbeek type of players. It wouldn’t surprise me if they are traded in the next two seasons. Both are fruitcakes and would be the last guys you want to back you up in a brawl. They are skilled players but definitely in the top 1% of soft players.

Next year will feel like the longest season as we tank for Verbeek. I fully expect a handful of our players to get concussed and kneed, and be out with major injuries from players like Lemieux, Coleman, or Viel in our division alone. Expect Zegras to mouth off on someone and get a big beating even by midgets like Garland or Arvidsson… he almost got eaten alive by Dunn last year so it’s bound to happen. Z is vocal so I’m sure he will say something to Verbeek which would make the situation worse for him. He better learn how to turtle as well as Matt Tkachuk.

This happens only on shitty teams like Buffalo, Arizona… wait…. and Anaheim…

I stopped reading after the first paragraph but what I did read was absolute garbage.

Samuelis aren't stupid, they'd fire Verbeek before they let Zegras go. Zegras is going to make the
Ducks big money.... He's already on the damn cover of EA NHL for gods sake.

I mean.. you are correct in the first sentence. But you need skilled players on your team regardless.

That is an interesting opinion though.

This reads like Dirk had too much to drink and somehow learned how to construct sentences.

I don’t know if this is a real post or some strange satire.

According to Dom, Ducks went from 26th to 6th..

“I like what (Pat) Verbeek has done so far and he has been a breath of fresh air to a front office that had seemed stagnant in recent years.”

“Love the transition from Verbeek from (Bob) Murray — seems like Verbeek has a clear vision of how he wants to construct his roster whereas it was muddled with Murray.”

“What Pat Verbeek is doing in Anaheim has been needing to happen for a few years. He is righting the ship and on his way to turning Anaheim into an absolute powerhouse.”

Last year I was shocked to see the Jets at sixth and it seems like “first team outside the top five” is the new home for surprise teams. The Ducks landing this high feels even more stunning.

A change at the top was long overdue and Pat Verbeek is already a big upgrade over Bob Murray. He made some strong moves at the deadline and had a decent offseason signing Ryan Strome, Frank Vatrano and John Klingberg to decent deals. That’s a solid summer and deserves strong marks — and upgraded confidence. The 98 percent change for the better from Ducks fans speaks volumes.

But it all still feels a little overzealous. I’m a fan of what the Ducks are building and last year was an intriguing step forward, but they’re still a bottom-feeding club that needs its core to take a big step forward if it’s going to compete with the big clubs at the top.

It’s a start, but sixth overall is pushing it.

I mean, I'm sure it's an accurate measure of *confidence* but that doesn't make the underlying assumptions accurate.

I know its a coulda-shoulda-woulda situation, but I can't help but think how close Verbeek was to even better moves. If he had pulled off the Dadonov trade and gotten JVR and Phillys 1st.... Jesus.

Having JVR, Klingberg, and Dadonov to trade at the deadline on top of the 1st and 2nd we got for taking those 2 guys....

Anyways.... Even without those moves I am very happy with what he has pulled off. It is just nice to actually have a direction instead of Bob changing direction/not having a direction constantly.

Verbeek is doing what Murray has been doing since TDL of 2018-19, which is doing a rebuild, build through the draft, and letting the youth develop. We still have the same problems as before such as lacking NHL talent depth across the board except at goalie. This time, though, we have found stars developing in Terry and Zegras as well as solid promise in Drysdale and Lundy at the NHL level.
