Wether or not the blame is on Verbeek for the roster construction or Eakins for his system, there doubtlessly has to be a better coach out there. No need to settle, he’s a placeholder.
It's a given if you read between the lines.I wouldn't be surprised either. That being said PV is suggesting that there is more than just the record that goes into coaching evaluations. That does suggest that he could go either way. It's not a given.
Trotz was just named GM of Nashville.
Seems like putting a system in place would be a change.Honestly, I'd love to see what would happen if he just changed his defensive systems. The players seem to like and respect him. They never quit and the kids seem to ha e progressed but the way the team defends just doesn't make sense.
Agree to disagree there. While I think it is likely I don't see his comments as a condemnation either. It's a given if you read between the lines.
Seems that way, and not really in a derogatory sense. I'm in the camp that thinks Eakins has done plenty to help with our younger players.Wether or not the blame is on Verbeek for the roster construction or Eakins for his system, there doubtlessly has to be a better coach out there. On the surface it's not, that's the point.Agree to disagree there. While I think it is likely I don't see his comments as a condemnation either.
That's definitely his strength. Makes sense he was a great AHL coach.Seems that way, and not really in a derogatory sense. I'm in the camp that thinks Eakins has done plenty to help with our younger players.
Picking up the option on Eakins last year always seemed to me like Verbeek was biding his time to find his guy. The line about not having enough time to evaluate the coaching staff, even if it was true, spoke more about him gutting the roster at the deadline.
On the surface it's not, that's the point.
Zero interest in Green. He had significantly better rosters in Vancouver than what he’s gonna get here, bad contracts or not.The NHL coaching market: Who’s available now, in the near future and in the long term?

So who’s the favorite to replace Eakins?
It would be interesting to see former duck Travis Green, or Bo’s dad. Leaman/Knoblauch might be good for our young guys. I can’t see us going with the woman listed at the end of the article but it would be neat to see that one day. Or we can go young with Jay Leach.
i wonder why dineen never got another NHL HC gig after he took the panthers to their first playoff appearance in foreverA retread who wants another shot could be Kevin Dineen. He's actually coached Terry, Z, Drysdale, Lundy, Comtois, and Jones with the Gulls. He only coached the Gulls for two seasons 2019-20 and 2020-21 COVID season.
If Verbeek is grooming his preferred coach in the AHL, then maybe trying Dineen for a season or two gives Verbeek another POV. It gives PV two darts, with one of those darts already having been the coach of some Ducks and Gulls players.
If Eakins gets points in every remaining game, does Verbeek extend him, or fire him out of spite?
I don’t know if I’d want to take the chance but I’m intrigued by what Green could do on his next stop. Vancouver just seems like such an absolute mess that goes beyond the talent of the roster.Zero interest in Green. He had significantly better rosters in Vancouver than what he’s gonna get here, bad contracts or not.
There’s also a fair chance that the next coach gets the Blashill treatment and knows it. That’ll limit the suitors to the high dollar long term veterans, the desperate for a job veterans, or the guys with multiple swings and misses who just want a shot.
So, we’re getting biblical rains and you think Eakins is going to say, “Hold my beer. Watch this”?If Eakins gets points in every remaining game, does Verbeek extend him, or fire him out of spite?
He’s 5-1-3 in the last 9, which is probably 10-11 points more than I thought this teams would muster in that spanSo, we’re getting biblical rains and you think Eakins is going to say, “Hold my beer. Watch this”?
Yeah, I knew you weren't serious. But I needed the laugh! He’s 5-1-3 in the last 9, which is probably 10-11 points more than I thought this teams would muster in that span
mainly just tongue in cheek saying Verbeek would fire him for ruining his tank, while pointing out Eakins is getting results
so eakins is coming back next season, right?
bedard is gone though.so eakins is coming back next season, right?
even more reason i think he'll be brought back. and it's looking unlikely that they'll end up with fantilli, carlsson, or michkov eitherbedard is gone though.
