Lots of disappointment to go around in SD, but those numbers out of Lopina and McLaughlin are just brutal.
I've thought about posting this for a couple weeks now, but wanted to give them more time, but yeah, they've really disappointed me production-wise (haven't watched any though, so maybe their play has been better than the stats indicate?)

Dostal and Grimaldi are the only ones that regularly impress me. Groulx and Brouillard would probably lead the next tier.

Hope Groulx gets a look in the NHL again soon, though the opportunity for that was probably when Grant was injured. After the deadline I'm sure he'll be up though

I don't mind Groulx staying in the A until the TDL.

Groulx, AHL
2020-21: 42 games, 10g + 19a = 29 pts (0.69 ppg), and +14 rating
2021-22: 40 games, 11g + 11a = 22 pts (0.55 ppg), and -6 rating
2022-23: 19 games, 5g + 10a = 15 pts (0.79 ppg), and -8 rating

Groulx had not a great season last year at the NHL and AHL levels. While his scoring is back up again this year, that defense he was known for isn't the same. The whole team defense just isn't there. I'm surprised we have Axel with +8 rating, kinda like a unicorn with the team.

Head Coach for AHL
2019-20: Dineen (30-19-8)
2020-21: Dineen (26-17-1)
2021-22: Bouchard (28-33-7)
2022-23: Sommer (6-13-0)

It sucked that Murray decided to embrace the new age by going with Bouchard over old school Dineen. Of course we didn't know Bouchard would bomb b/c many pegged Bouchard to replace Eakins. Yet, Eakins is still with the org and Bouchard was one-and-done.

Disappointing, IMO. His D+1 year brought some promise but is not producing much anymore
He’s also been on a terrible team and isn’t completely hopeless production wise. I could see him being an Eberle type player still. Consistency is the big question mark

Perreault's offense comes to life when Tracey is on his line, according to Defend the Nest (Gulls blog site). Some highlight flash with Perreault, but it doesn't happen consistently enough right now. I think he's still in that "perimeter play" stage still. Young Perreault is 20 years old for this season and this should be his first year in the pros. We got time since this year is the first year of his ELC along with Terry and Vatrano solidifying the top-6 RW positions for another two more seasons.

As for a bad team, roster construction is part of it. Part of it getting hit with a rash of injuries and another part is some of their best players do get called up to Anaheim in case of Regenda, Gawdin, Strand, and Helleson. For a lot of the returning players, they are on their 2nd AHL coach in two years. For a smaller group, they are on their third AHL coach in three seasons such as Groulx, Perreault, Drew, and Tracey.

He's #8 on this bad team in scoring and would be lower if others had played the same amount of games.
I know you mentioned that he could be a type (not level) of a player than Eberle, but for example, at his age, Eberle was a rookie and with a better PPG rate in the NHL than Perreault is in the AHL.

I think it's fair to say that MP's development is not going as well as hoped. Our org is very thin with wingers tbh.

I'll admit that i'm a bit worried about Perreault after a very encouraging start to his pro career during the covid year. for me, I don't see him becoming an impact player anytime soon, and if he does get there, looks like he's going to be taking a longer road than some.

So, as we worry about signing players before they become ufa
How are they projecting?

Worst Case, Ontario
Saginaw made a significant trade today, sending five early draft picks for young forward Hunter Haight. They are bidding to host the Memorial Cup at the end of next season, the four team CHL championship tournament featuring the host plus the champions from each of the WHL, OHL and QMJHL.

This would further strengthen the likelihood that Mintyukov gets dealt, as a player highly unlikely to return to help with their Mem Cup bid next season. They'll almost surely move him to get some picks to flip for some help for next year.

The OHL trade deadline is a little over a month away.
