Mintyukov has eight more points than the next highest scoring defenseman in the OHL. On his own team he is the leading scorer by nine points, which includes forwards. His +17 is +7 better than the next highest dman on his team and is the second best of all players in the OHL.

Tschigerl got an instigator, fighting major, and 10 minute misconduct in the second period, his night done early.

Prospect Update, Pt 1: NA, Juniors, NCAA, USHL

Plus/Minus Leaders

1. LD Tyson Hinds with +21.
2T. LD Mintyukov with +19.
2T. C Gaucher with +19.

Defensemen throwing their offensive weight around.

Mintyukov, Luneau, and Thrun have all improved their PPG rates since last week! Luneau finally broke over a ppg rate this past week.

GM Verbeek on defensemen and one forward in the "Beeker" stream cast.

Hinds - Came away impressed at camp and didn't realize his offensive potential until recently
Warren - expected to be a top shutdown, complimentary D; potential Minty-Warren pairing
Moore - good hockey sense, but needs to improve offense
Minty and Zell - both have great offensive instincts, but need to improve their defense. They will probably need to develop that defensive structure in the AHL for a year or two.
Luneau - very good, but still needs to improve his strength and skating
LaCombe - college game is easy for LaCombe, great skater
Thrun - did well vs Michigan
Gaucher - prefers to see him at center due to tenacity, puck battle, and goes to the net

Verbeek's vision could be an NHL top-pairing set of Minty-Warren. If this is his vision, then the path to rebuilding the Ducks' blueline will be takings years to be established. It could be hurried a bit if he's able to get LaCombe and Thrun signed, though, b/c Verbeek does sound enamored by both.

Prospect Update, Pt 2: Pros - NHL, AHL, and Euro/Asia

Euro highlight

G Clang finally broke through the .900 Sv% mark this week!

AHL Highlight (and lowlight)

Injuries, injuries, injuries. Players who have been injured so far this season are Perreault, Tracey, Helleson, Lopina, and Andersson.

San Diego currently has only three players with over 0 plus/minus rating:
1. D Andersson +8
2. LW Tracey +5
3. F Regenda +2

It feels like the AHL club is mimicking the NHL club here.
