I feel like Gaucher has already shown more than Jones ever did but I am someone who hated that Jones pick the moment we made it so maybe I'm biased but to be fair I also hated the Gaucher pick when we first made it but he's won me over in the months since the draft with what we saw from him at training camp and thus far in the Q this year.

Gaucher is most likely a bottom 6 guy but I think he has all the tools to be one of those underlooked guys who doesn't put up a ton of points but is one of the best defensively-minded forwards in the league, Jones on the other hand I never saw anything more than a fringe 4th line/AHL level forward, he never impressed me even at the OHL level
Gaucher seems like a pretty heady player with decent hands. Jones i think is at his best when he can react to plays that happen out of the blue. when there's any sort of collaboration/planning going on with his linemates, he makes a lot of bad decisions. Hopefully Gaucher becomes a guy who can win battles as well, right now Terry is kinda the only guy up front who consistently does that. another big knock on Jones, IMO

Our prospect pool is on a tear right now. I feel like some of our fringe guys are performing better than some other teams’ top prospects this year.

In 2-3 years it’s possible our team could experience a complete turnover

Yup, many prospects are producing. That 2021 class might be a standout draft as five of the 8 draftees have already been signed.

Rd 1. C McTavish ✅
Rd 2. LD/RD Zellweger ✅
Rd 3. RW Pastujov ✅
Rd 3. LD Hinds ✅
Rd 4. C Lopina ✅
Rd 5. LW Tschigerl - 0.875 ppg and +6 in CHL
Rd 5. G Alexander - 0.887 Sv % and 3.84 GAA in CHL
Rd 6. C Kukonen - 0.833 ppg and +3 in NCAA

As for the team experiencing a mostly complete turnover in 2-3 years, that's probably the point of the Verbeeking reset and expiring contracts soon to sluff off.

Gaucher is a slightly bigger, straight-line faster skater, and a more willing pugilist than Groulx.

Groulx is listed at 6'2 and 198 lbs, at Elite Prospects. A 2018 second round pick, 54th overall.
Gaucher is listed at 6'3 and 207 lbs. A 2022 first round pick, 22nd overall.

When drafted, both prospects were known for being shutdown defensemen with a potential for more scoring.

Aside from plus/minus, both were productive as defensive pivots in their draft year. Since both belong to the QMJHL, we can actually compare apples to apples with the style of play for that league... somewhat.

Groulx was impressive in his D + 3 season in the AHL that he earned a starting fourth line center position in 2021-22!

2021-22 starting centers to start the season:

1C Getz
2C Zegras (age 20)
3C Lundy (age 21)
4C Groulx (age 21)

Groulx struggled as an NHL 4C and was sent down to the AHL. Unfortunately, there were new coaches and a new scheme in San Diego where Groulx' play took a step back.

With a new season, new coaching staff, and new scheme, it looks as though Groulx has found his productivity once again this season. Currently, Groulx is tied for 2nd in scoring for San Diego.

I think Groulx is the rough template for Gaucher. Anaheim's gonna need to replenish its bottom-6 soon. Grant is an UFA after this season. Silf and Carrick are UFAs the next season. We could form a fast, shutdown line of the future with Groulx-Lundy-Gaucher that can quickly counter offensively. That would be nice.

1 thing I like about the hinds pick, is we traded to get him. He seems like a perfect compliment to some of our offensive guys…. I really hope him and Warren can both be nhl players down the line

I think Murray and team wanted D Hinds all along in the 3rd round, but RW Pastujov fell to them with their original 3rd round pick. It appears they were hot on Hinds like they were hot on Manson to trade into their respective rounds. Half of the scouting reports said that Hinds was a DFD and nothing more. Murray and team took a gamble on Hinds' scoring potential after Hinds' offense exploded with a new team in the second half of his season. Murray and team often draft players whose play improved in the second half of their draft season.

A year after drafting Hinds, I found some surprisingly great stats on him while researching for DFDs in Bichsel, Pickering, Lamoureaux, Chesley, and Warren. Hinds was tops for his D+0 QMJHL season in hits and puck battle wins.

Hinds is developing as a two-way D with a defensive forte. Hinds' projection from lots of scouting media is 3rd pairing DFD, but potentially 2nd pairing if his offense can translate to the NHL level.

I wonder what the chances are the ducks have the leading defensive point getter in all 3 Canadian jr leagues.

Mintyukov currently leading the OHL

Zellweger(top 5) led last year, off to a slowish start for him point wise but still generating a crazy amount of shots and offense, I imagine he’ll eventually take the lead in WHL.

Luneau #2 in qmjhl, really started to heat up…. He’s prob the least likely to lead out of the 3.

Hinds is also flirting with top 5 in qmjhl.

And Jackson lacombe is #2 in college hockey

Lots of weird choices. Even if you don’t count the draft eligible guys McTavish should be closer to 10.

Pretty full slate of games tonight just before American thanksgiving.

Pastujov and Luneau both have a primary assist in the first.
