Felt like that movie, Animal House and Up Periscope got played at least monthly while underway on my old boat.

I would he is tough and was excellent in the playoffs.

We could always play someone like MacDonald who sucks
MacDonald even at half-speed (he’s been working his way back from injury) is at least twice as good as JJ at his best.

And he was awful in the playoffs. Had hands down the worst giveaway by an Avs player in the postseason.

I get he’s a good guy and I’m glad he got his ring but that ship has sailed. I don’t even want to consider how bad an EJ-JJ pairing would be this year.

I'd say it would look a fair bit better than Englund-EJ.

You’d be wrong. Other than inexplicably risking injury to his goalies on two separate occasions, Englund has looked perfectly fine on the third pairing. Admittedly that’s with limited minutes but you definitely don’t want JJ playing any more than that either.

Hopefully Chicago is high on one or more of Foudy, OO, Behrens, or Meyers. Or just in love with the first round of 23 where they value a late pick more like a ~10th overall pick in an average year. Would suck to lose newhook in a rental situation and I don’t see Joe doing that

I'll agree to disagree. I agree JJ isn't a 2nd pairing or even a 5th but I'd argue he's still a decent fairly decent 6th and pretty good 7th dman. Remember he was considered our 9th dman heading into last season, I think (or close). For whatever reason, he earns coaches trust. I think Bednar did very well, given the circumstances and injuries, managing him. I also think his locker room presence would be a good add.

All that said, I am not advocating going out and targeting him specifically. But if we are dealing with Chicago at some point, I don't think it would be out of the question to inquire about getting him added as a favor. A little good-will to JJ, a little good will to a divisional rival to keep trade avenues viable. Doubt it would alter the price at all depending on who we are targeting.

Englund is a tire fire. He's so bad lol.

He's been perfectly fine for a guy who was like ninth on the D depth chart. I'd still take him over JJ. For a big guy he can skate fairly well and the puck skill is better than I thought.

If the Avs get to the point where they gotta call up Middleton, okay, THEN you go and get JJ.

I think you might be on an island with that opinion.

I'm no JMFJ stan but as a #6 he is perfectly fine.

Englund and MacDonald have been serviceable considering the circumstances, but I'd welcome JJ back as a #7 in a heartbeat.

Even when Englund isn't actively working to get Jonas Johansson called up, those two have had some bad giveaways in the defensive zone. I wouldn't want to rely on either of them in a playoff game if injuries hit.

This is Sheldon Dries all over again. People losing their minds over a guy who's like the 3rd or 4th callup. What are people expecting here?

I still maintain that Dries was literally the only forward who knew what he was doing on the PK at the time. No other Avs player even bothered getting using his stick to disrupt passes and to challenge shooters. He was also fine as a 12th forward on an insanely banged-up team. The only minus on him was the occasional stupid penalty.

Englund is pretty much the same. Getting very limited minutes, he's been fine, with a bigger role I could see some bad things happening, but he's not Brad Stuart with the puck and he can move well for a big fella.

I should also add that *knock on wood* after a horrendous start, EJ seems to have cleaned things up a little.

Looks like Dries won't draw into the lineup tonight.

I mean, what do you think you're seeing? What are you expecting.

Englund is awful as an NHL Dman. Plain and simple. Its why he's barely ever played in the NHL outside of one stint with a bottom feeder that didn't even last half a season. I dont hate him as an AHL guy and sure as a #9/10 he's playing reasonably ok.

But honestly you are kidding yourself if you think he's a better option then Jack Johnson. I think that's the part that is especially absurd to people here. Jack isn't some superstar Dman, he's not more then a #7/8 on a Cup contender, or a #5/6 on bad teams, but he is a legit NHL Dman. He's got over 1000 games played and played meaningful minutes on a Stanley Cup winning roster that oh by the way happened to be us.

They're not even in the same ballpark as players. Johnson is literally better at everything.
