I actually rather like Douglas as a bottom 6 prospect. Big, skates well, uses his size and works... will surprise with some skill from time to time too. With Toronto's injuries, Timmy will get a good run too if he can stay healthy. Will be what he needs to show if he can hack it.

I’ve seen a mini meltdown that Douglas got moved from Leaf fans. Kinda reminds of the meltdown here when Wood got traded.

That was one of the funnier meltdowns I’ve witnessed. You’d have thought he was “can’t miss” the way the boards reacted.

A prospect with tons of size gets dealt for a former Sault Ste. Marie Greyhound? Dubas-haters were bound to have a field day with that one.

Le sigh, as if they didn't already throw enough cheap shots.

I may come to regret these words but the slow-ass goons don't worry me as much as the Garnet Hathaway-types who are just there to take runs at guys. That's about the only thing Brandon Duhaime knows how to do at the NHL level.

I think you might be on an island with that opinion.

I'm no JMFJ stan but as a #6 he is perfectly fine.
I think Englund has done ok, I like a having another physical guy back there who isn't McDermid. We can carry one big lug back there and get away with it. For the stretch and playoffs though, I would not mind having JJ back as insurance. The D corp is rad 1-6 with all players healthy but after that the drop off is huge. He will cost nothing and he'd obviously be able to step in seamlessly.

Watching Englund makes me miss MacDermid on the back end. That should say alot
I always wonder how we watch the same games and have such vastly varying opinions on players who don't play a lot haha. He's been fine! What did you expect from an AHL guy? He looks like he knows his role, I think he's a nice emergency plan. He plays it safer than MacDonald, and for me that's better with the team we're icing now. Anyway he's back down so we don't have to talk about it for a while.

This is Sheldon Dries all over again. People losing their minds over a guy who's like the 3rd or 4th callup. What are people expecting here?

I still maintain that Dries was literally the only forward who knew what he was doing on the PK at the time. No other Avs player even bothered getting using his stick to disrupt passes and to challenge shooters. He was also fine as a 12th forward on an insanely banged-up team. The only minus on him was the occasional stupid penalty.

Englund is pretty much the same. Getting very limited minutes, he's been fine, with a bigger role I could see some bad things happening, but he's not Brad Stuart with the puck and he can move well for a big fella.

I should also add that *knock on wood* after a horrendous start, EJ seems to have cleaned things up a little.
EJ no longer looks washed up, he's been way better the last 8-10 games for sure. He's important to us and needs to not to be a slow hungover bag of crap. His liver vitamins are probably just kicking in.

I mean, what do you think you're seeing? What are you expecting.

Englund is awful as an NHL Dman. Plain and simple. Its why he's barely ever played in the NHL outside of one stint with a bottom feeder that didn't even last half a season. I dont hate him as an AHL guy and sure as a #9/10 he's playing reasonably ok.

But honestly you are kidding yourself if you think he's a better option then Jack Johnson. I think that's the part that is especially absurd to people here. Jack isn't some superstar Dman, he's not more then a #7/8 on a Cup contender, or a #5/6 on bad teams, but he is a legit NHL Dman. He's got over 1000 games played and played meaningful minutes on a Stanley Cup winning roster that oh by the way happened to be us.

They're not even in the same ballpark as players. Johnson is literally better at everything.
I don't think that's the total conversation we are having but anyway stating things as absolutes never leads to enlightening banter. I also think JJ is much better than Englund, but I can see someone rather having Englund based on what he's shown so far. He's looked okay, maybe JJ would be okayer? But the experience is what we really could use later on in the year, so in that regard JJ by a country mile.

I mean…yeah pretty much. That's usually the go-to for teams who no cap room and no depth, just goon it up.
He's not going to help that team, I think he's nearly toast.

All the more reason I like that acquisition. Every team who gets him ends up booting him not long after. And this latest one was telling since New York literally fired their GM and president because the owner demanded they get someone to take on Tom Wilson.

Speaking of JJ and his awesomeness...I think we get him back at the deadline.
Maybe but I'm not so sure. He did really well for us but I'm not sure we'd get the same result if he'd been playing for crappy chicago for 3 quarters of the year.

Personally, if the Caps are out of by the deadline and I think that they will be, I think a guy like TVR would be a great target for a depth d-man.

I think it's important to have an extra veteran D, I just hope they learned from the Nemeth thing. It can't just be someone you were fond of when they played here. We honestly haven't found our JJ replacement and I think it's actually kind of crucial.
