Would honestly be amazing if the Avs could get Horvat for OO and a 1st or something of that ilk. I’ve resigned myself that if a deal gets done it would have to include Newhook, but if they manage to keep him that would really help with this years depth.
Really should pull the trigger especially if ERod is out long term.

If there really is a deal agreed to in principle, I would agree with you at this point. The sooner whoever is going to be the 2C is able to get integrated into Bednar's system the more of a chance the deal has for working.

Of course, getting accustomed to our systems would be one thing but how long it will be before we have our full complement of wingers available for the C to start working on chemistry with? *LOL*

VAN is not going to pull the plug on Horvat now. They will not throw away the season so early. Plus, because of the cap, Horvat value increases close to the deadline as they can auction him to many teams.

Yeah I expect them to get something like that, 1st round prospect and 1st round pick. Our pick will likely be far back, so it comes down to whether they think OO has great potential. If not, then other teams will outbid us for sure.

Sign Galcheyuk already, we have room for a league minimum contract and we need some forwards with an ounce of offensive skill. I hope they call up Maltsev, Meyers, Gally and Ranta. No more bullshit hearing “we want them to play more” give us players that give us a shot. If ERod is hurt let’s give some young guys a little runway.

It’s all dog shit, that at best would be a top AHL line, but what choice do we really have? I rather these lines then throwing Blihd, Hunt, Megna out there.

Not sure where to put this. Surprised Foudy was not called up after the recent comments. I am starting to believe that in Bednar's mind the issue with Colorado's forwards is not offense or skill, but a lack of grinders.

Bednar doesn't seem to trust skill guys when they are just being called up. They've got to prove themselves, but he's also going to make it damn hard for them to prove themselves.

What about his powder problem?

To be fair I don't think the Avs have any skill guys to bring up. Foudy and OO are somewhat skill guys, but even then I don't think they're guys that are surefire top 6 prospects. I mean OO got his shot on the 2nd line and was pretty meh. And other than that you just have a bunch of bottom 6 guys to bring up in Blidh, Megna, Ranta, etc.

OO is a good example of this. You've got a 4 minute PP and just lost your guy you usually have along the right side boards. Conveniently enough, you've got a prospect on your roster that is well known for his shot. Guy gets zero PP time.

Lol at one point our "2nd unit" PP was Cogliano - Megna - O'Connor omg.

I mean idk based on last night OO isn’t ready for the NHL and I think him playing was not Bednars choice. Probably should’ve gotten a shot there but I don’t really see that as some indictment that Bednar won’t give young guys a chance.

I don't disagree, but that was just an immediate example. Unless the young kid is overwhelmingly talented and forces Bednar's hand, he does tend to prefer the grinders

I think almost all coaches are this way. The level of thinking is antiquated IMO but I can see why they choose this method. Grinders are "safe." They don't take chances (for the most part). They get pucks deep, forecheck, backcheck, block shots, tie players up, etc.

Skill players try to make things happen but they will turn pucks over more than grinders. If you haven't built up enough trust with a coach, turning the puck over is going to result in a benching. So coach trusts the grinders to do the simple things rather than the skill guys to attempt skill plays.

I mean it’s not like we‘ve needed skill players recently though. Our top 6 has been set since Bednars been here essentially and he’s given plenty of young guys chances.

Oh it was worse than that--the first time Bednar rolled out that "2nd unit" during the extended power play it was effin' DRYDEN HUNT instead of Cogliano. My God. After that Bednar put in Cogliano.

Like...just put OO out there FFS.

No one is talking about him but I could see Monahan becoming an Av at the deadline (at 50%).

Montreal will trade him for sure and he looks healthy. He's good on the dot and has decent production too.

I would not give up a 1st or Newhook but if they like one of the other B list prospects (Foudy is french...)
