What a weird time for everyone to start shitting on Girard. Guy just got us a OT goal and has been playing better the last few games. You guys can like and praise Manson without dumping on G. Their pairing in the playoffs last year was great. And this injury prone nonsense is pretty unfounded. He's only been hurt once in the playoffs and that was last year. I can understand the comments about wanting him to play better, but to act like his the reason we lose games is absurd. All of our defensemen get beat though out the season, but for some reason when the players is Sammy, the bitchers go full blast for weeks.

Yeah it's weird. Somehow a conversation about Manson turned into another shit on Girard parade.

It's what makes the eye test comments so funny. The eye test is the most biased version of evaluation you can get.

When stat whacking at perusing the internet for 2C options. What stats do y'all like to key on to compare? I think I've been too over-reliant on looking at xGF% at the exclusion of what could be other really meaningful metrics and am trying to get a new, perhaps broader perspective on how to statistically break down a center's play.

Evolving Hockey's got some good tools especially the Pro Subscription.

With the pro subscription you can get access to some of the tools that factor in the quality of linemates relative to individual performance as well as the quality of your competition on the ice relative to others.

So then you can start to see some players that are playing well but with bad linemates or against stiff competition.

Something like xGAR and/or RAPM charts also do a good job showcasing a players performance across multiple categories as well.

…. Really? Ethan Bear? I would take Manson over him all day, every day. Having someone with size that can clear the front of the net is something you need in the postseason, which is why most would keep Manson over Girard at this point.
Ah yes, the myth of the “crease clearer” rears its ugly head again. Manson doesn’t do that well and frankly a lot of big bodies with this reputation don’t either. A more effective defenseman is one that can get to loose pucks in the slot and move it out effectively. That takes skill, not size.

Hey remember Zadorov? How well did he “clear the crease?”

Anyway this is as far as I want to take this conversation. It’s pointless. Kadri isn’t there, Bear isn’t there, and Manson is locked down for several years. What’s done is done. Now we’ll see what they do going forward.

FTR I’m not here to say Manson serves no purpose. It’s nice to see a guy able to mash opposing players into the boards and who seems to possess a modicum of puck skill.

How ridiculously expensive would it be to get a 2nd team to sign your UFA for you and trade them to you retained on July 1.

Like what would it cost us to get Arizona to sign Horvat to an 8.75Mx7year deal and immediately trade it to us at 50% retained.

I’m kind of ambivalent to Manson. He’s fine. I think he still moves pretty well. Hopefully he’s got a couple solid years left in him. The going rate for that type of defenceman is similar to what he got, so it just is what it is. I just wish he could PK well.

I’ll say this, of last years deadline additions, I’m a lot more excited about having Lehkonen locked down long term.
Lehks a diamond in the rough

A ridiculous over pay, and this would require Horvat to be down the sign and trade

Oh no, I would've assumed all parties would be aware of what was happening and why. In fact, I wonder if the league would actually allow such a deal to go through because it really would be an absolute middle finger to the salary cap at that point.

I don't think a rebuilding team would want to handicap themselves cap wise for such a long time. Plus I'll take a lot of picks to make up for 30M$ in cash. It would also take a team that is well off financially, i.e. not usual suspect ARZ.

Funny this is what you choose to respond to while conveniently ignoring the other posters that are flat out proving you wrong with facts lol
It's because he's full fledged analytics now. The game can't possibly be seen differently. If a player has poor analytics, that player must be awful and if a player has great analytics, well, that player must be fantastic.

I wonder where Zach Redmond is these days.

Your understanding of this sport is comical.

Plus/minus and height above replacement. And if you want to get into advanced stats, career game-winning goals to know if they're a big game player.

So Jesse from DNVR was a guest on the PHNX podcast and mentioned that the TDL name he keeps hearing around the team is not Jonathan Toews, but Patrick Kane...which would reiterate what Friedman had heard about them inquiring about last year. He obviously wouldn't solve the 2C problem, but he would certainly solidify the top-6 as one of the league's best once again. If ERod can keep up his pace of play I could definitely talk myself into Patty Kane being the best option this year considering he should come in cheaper than a guy like Horvat.

I know he talks about the team in the podcast but does he have connections?

Why would Kane waive to go to Arizona?

Does this make it more baseful?

Hypothetically.. just for fun...say we traded for P Kane and he was interested In an extension. Are the Avs interested? If so does it look like a 3 year deal or like a 5 year deal? And what's the AAV. My guess would be 3 Years at 7.5m AAV
(Kane isn't going to sign anywhere for less than 3 years)

I think it only works if Rantanen moves to Center full time.
