Rumor: 2022-2023 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: The Search for a 2C

I'm sure we'll get someone, but it's probably gonna be someone no one expects and will most likely not satisfy most people on here. The Avs simply don't trade for big names.
Even without cap constraints, other contenders have more ammo as far as picks and prospects go. Luckily for us our all in attempt paid off last year.

Don't underestimate our Pro scouts. We might not end up with the homecoming queen, but I'm confident our target will fulfill the role we need.

Some do, some don't. It's also a question of how much value those other teams are willing to give up.

We have our 2023 and 2024 1sts. If the Avs really wanted to, they could get any available piece the wanted to at the deadline.

Yeah... Something tells me Domi is who they end up getting. Shouldn't be too expensive to get and with retention will be the easiest to fit in our limited cap space.

Also decently productive. Certainly not my first choice, but they could do worse IMO.

They missed the window to trade EJ last summer realistically. The fact they didn't trade him this past summer makes it pretty clear they aren't going to move him.
Cost to trade him last summer: 1st round pick
Cost to move him at the deadline: likely next to nothing

Also I don't think they were planning on using LTIR this year. Things change.

Wonder if Drouin will finally be on the Avs next season. Sounds like the next reclamation project, we know the Avs love collecting those 2013 draft picks.

There were options. Flipping a low draft pick to Carolina for Ethan Bear was one of them. Bottom pairing doesn’t matter too much.
Bottom pairing? Therefore EJ was going to be our 2nd line RD? I understand how people are freaking out to find creative way to squeeze a good 2C into our lineup, but re-signing Manson was and is NECESSARY for our cup hopes. At this stage, probably the most useful move is having Landy on LTIR until the end of the regular season. In that case there will be no issues squeezing in a Toews retained + JMFJ for a 1st + Ranta/Bowers/Kaut

I’d be going all-in at the deadline this season. Where they’re at with the injuries is crazy, honestly. This is a special group. Well coached and high compete/character throughout the roster.

The next two 1sts should be on the table and any prospect too.

Re-Signing Manson will end up being the deal that cost us any future cups.

Absolute boat anchor of a contract.
Lol a 4.5M contract that is tradeable in 2 years, isn't going to cost us anything.

Not sure why you hate on Manson and his contact so much, but are willing to look the other way on Girard who has longer, bigger money contract, that isn't tradeable with the way he has played this year.

Girard is the money anchor right now it's not even close.

The contracts that make the cap tight are MacKinnon, Makar, and Rantanen. Don't get me wrong, they're the nucleus of the team, you pay them whatever to keep them, but they all left very little on the table. Just to reiterate, I was for keeping these guys at all costs.

There was an excellent article from the Denver Post (I read it in the Boulder Daily Camera this morning) about Chris McFarland and his history as he worked his way towards being our GM. He specializes in Capology, and also pro scouting. The article details his work on the trade of Rick Nash from 'Lumbus to the Blue Shirts, and how he then handled much of the Duchene trade for us. After learning more about his background and his detailed work i have all confidence in CMac to make it work for us in terms of team building, trades, and managing the Cap.

I recommend finding the article and giving it a read.

The two trades that helped shape Chris MacFarland’s ascent to Avalanche general manager: “He did this the hard way”

He'll be $4.5M overpaid within a year.

We need to spend the assets and cap space on a center.

Here's one real thing to worry about: We stopped accruing cap space a long time ago because of LTIR and we won't have cap space at the deadline as of now.

What do we do?
Good bye EJ and his 6m ass

I have to disagree with you man. Manson's value is in the playoffs, and I don't think he will be net negative in the regular season either during his time in here.
Same with JTC he scores some clutch goals in the playoffs

There's a reason teams pay through the roof for big physical stay at home defenseman. Look at what Chiarot and David Savard got at the deadline, not to mention Manson is right handed and better than both of them. They're valuable in the playoffs. We don't win the cup without Manson but we won it without Girard.

There's an anchor on this team and that's a small puck moving defenseman that can't actually put up offensive numbers and gets abused in the playoffs. Guy is a team worst -8 for a reason.

Um…why would EJ be 2nd pairing in this scenario?

Anyway it’s a moot point.
