I bash Girard regularly but the last handful of games he deserves a bit more credit. He’s been looking a little more confident out there.

I’ve watched almost all the games and he’s looked good to me defensively. Offensively things aren’t happening much in that zone but he’s still clever breaking out of his own zone. We don’t need him to contribute a lot offensively but it sure would be nice.
I’d be fine with trading him for another area of need except for the fact that we have so little depth on D. We’d have to pick up a reclamation guy or a vet at the deadline unless we want to be depending on MacD, MacDer and Englund when the games starts to matter the most. And that’s assuming a healthy Byram, which is not a given.

literally no one has produced offensively on this team consistently over the last month other than Rantanen. Not sure why G is getting so much hate. Makar has been awful.

Makar has been very up and down. He turns the puck over a lot more in his own zone than I can ever remember. If he were any other D and doing that, this board would be making him the new Skoula.

He's always on the ice so he's going to make more mistakes and you'll notice them more
If he was playing less he'd make fewer mistakes

I don’t know, to me he’s goofing it up more than in previous seasons. Toews is out there tons too and I don’t see it from him. The top 4 are playing monster minutes with Bo and Josh out.
I don’t think Makar is having the season we envisioned, but he’s been a bit of a slow starter hasn’t he?
Karlsson , Dahlin, Heiskenen , Fox , Morrissey, Hughes are all playing those minutes and handling it with ease. All are playing better than Makar.

Are you watching all these players as much as Makar? The Canucks board strongly disagrees with you on Hughes but I guess you know better.
Well leave Hughes out if you want and add Lindholm.. Makar' s defensive game is bad and he isn't playing as well as any if those guys.
Point is they are all playing as much as him and playing well. This excuse of him playing too much is not true. Toews is playing them as well and isn't havi g Makar problems. Dude needs to up his conditioning

Well the good thing that came out of the injury to Mack is that we now know Rant can drive his own line which leave the Avs the option of moving Rant to C permanently and go for a top winger instead which will cost less.
So you are totally cool with a 5M player that is on pace for less than 20 pts, has the worst +/- on the team, can't get a shot through from up top and struggles with any kind physical play? Face it Girard has devolved into barely an NHL player. He's a long way from what he used to be.
I feel like people are hanging onto nostalgia with Girard and are putting blinders on to what he actually is doing on the ice currently.
He's been bad this year, there is no nice way to put it.

I said it last year and I still believe it to this day....I don't think Mikko wants to play C. IMO he is OK with it if there are no other options but I believe he has already told the Avs that he is not interested in being a permanent solution at 2C. Sakic/CMac might, and it is a big might, be able to convince him to do it for the reminder of the year due to the team's current cap issue but I very much doubt he will be OK with doing it next year as well.

I don't know another 5 years at 5M is a tough pill to swallow right now for what G brings to the table.

Jared dumbdar consistantly plays him 28 to 31 mins a night in regular season games. Guys flat out burnt out already. Makar hasn't taken an optimal skate all season

If Makar is burnt out already and we're in December, he didn't train properly this summer.
There are many defensemen in the league that play top minutes and seem to handle it. This is an excuse IMO. He just hasn't had the mental focus yet this year. He's always a bit of a slow starter and I think the cup win last year has affected a lot of the team this year in terms of getting up for regular season games. Hopefully in the 2nd half of the season after Christmas the guys start to re focus on their goal.

You know who's else is a top end defenseman that's playing like trash? Hedman. Only Makar and Hedman went that far and the playoffs and both of them are having a tough time this season. I honestly believe it just fatigue for those two. Makar was celebrating and definitely could have been in better playing shape to start the season just like EJ.
Honestly, I still don’t understand how some members of this board believe that Hayes could be the solution to our 2C issue
