Rumor: 2022-2023 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: The Search for a 2C

I know there are some that don’t agree with Rantanen at C or that he doesn’t look as good as when he’s on wing. But I mean, that was always going to be a given. We can’t expect him to be a 100 pt Center.

But what we need to always remember is that we have to weigh the different trade options that become available if he plays as a Center. Because for all we know, the Center options may be very short or extremely expensive. On the other hand, there may be more top 6 winger options.

So it’s not just is Rantanen a really good Center.

It’s about exploring trading for a top 6 Center

OR

Accepting that Rantanen is more like a 70-80 point 2C, and we go and look for a quality winger at hopefully, a cheaper price than a 2C.

Can't see him falling all the way to the Avs anyways. One of the bottom teams will snatch him up.

Avs aren't exactly way up the list. Only 12 teams below us.

Honestly, some team with really bad forward depth probably takes a chance on him but realistically better players clear waivers all the time.

I don't watch him or know if he can play center but Buffalo is pretty set at center with Cozens, Thompson, and Krebs. Mittlestadt fits the buy low category.
Krebs is playing wing with Okposo and Girgensen. Casey skated in place of Skinner on the line with Thompson and Tuch and didn't make much happen.

Mittlestadt has acquired the reputation of not jelling with anyone. Tremendous skill with the puck but not cohesive with any of the wingers he's been lined up with.

Yer right. Cozens ain't going anywhere.

Frankly, Mittelstadt isn't #2C material on the Avalanche. I say look elsewhere.

Not that everyone can be a great reclamation project but Rantanen and Lehkonen could be a great mentor for Tolvanen. That cap hit might be the main deterrant though.

I mean he's not great. Plus he doesn't really bring a ton of plus skills or anything. He'd be at best a stopgap here imo.

Exactly this.

He's a below replacement level player right now. Only reason anyone will take a chance is if they still believe the 1st round pick hype.

Is he that bad? Salary is not the worst.

I mean, he's not the worst player in the league or anything like that. But he isn't good and isn't an upgrade on any of our fodder here already.

Honestly I think the assets to move are the 2024 or 2025 first, OO and any of our lesser prospects. I do not want the Avs to move Foudy or Newhook without the trade being for a sure-fire second line center with term and no health issues. Or use those same assets to try to land a top 6 winger, I’d be fine with either of they’re willing to play Mikko at center. Assuming JTC gets moved for cap purposes I see lines of:

Landy-MacK-Trade
Lehk-Mikko-Nuke
Newhook-ERod-Foudy
Cogs-Helm-LOC

Over drafted cuz he’s a center and development to shit cuz he’s a coyote
I've said it before, Chayka went into a defense-heavy draft and took the first center he could even though that center wasn't that highly touted. Next year he goes into a forward-heavy draft and actually trades UP to get the first defenseman. This is why you really just need to take best player available and go from there.
