Kaut's game against Columbus was something he couldn't sustain. He doesn't have the motor or conditioning to be that guy every night. Just like other AHL guys, there can be moments where they look like NHL players... but they really aren't when you zoom out. Kaut will probably get a NHL contract from somebody next year and bounce up and down... but in 2024, he's going to be back in Europe.

Bednar's comment though... this is a frustrated coach. He comments about injuries yesterday, then the calling out of the vets last night, then this Kaut lecture today... he's not a happy camper and it is totally understandable.
Bednar sounds like I have this week lol this lineup blows I don’t blame him.

I dont even know what long term solutions would be available for a Byram trade. Not really any names popped up as available thay fit that kind of trade.

Mind you, Byram isn't exactly "available" either so who knows what names shake free if CMac brings his name up.

Fun little fact. "3rd line Center" Joel Eriksson Ek is now on pace for a 30G, 72 Point campaign. He's gotta be the best 3C in the league.

It's a disappointing ending for Kaut after stringing together a few decent games early on. All of these injuries gave Kaut the Grade A opportunity none of us thought would ever come after all these years, but he'd been invisible for several games now.

I wish Kaut no ill will and hope a bad team claims him to gives him another NHL shot. It's not going to happen in Colorado.

Kaut has been underwhelming but it's hard for our young guys in general right now, they totally lack insolation. Guys that should be the worst players on their line play with similar players. It's bound to not work, even if we see some flashes here and there.

This has to be the bleakest our franchise has looked (forward looking) since the Duchene trade as a whole. During the summer of 2019, I legitimately thought we had dynasty potential. I almost created an account and posted that on the main boards, but it seemed like too much for a new user.

We had:
-23 turning 24 year old Nathan MacKinnon on the best contract in the league
-26 year old point per game Landeskog
-21 year old Girard who looked like a staple on defense for the foreseeable future(Not summer of 2019, but thought to have been signed to a sweetheart of a deal)
-4th overall pick in the draft plus the 16th pick
-The best prospect pool in the league

Now we have:
-27 year old Nathan MacKinnon who is the highest paid player in the league
-30 year old Gabriel Landeskog who is coming off significant injury(ies)
-Disappointing Sam Girard who's days as an impact player seem like a distant memory
-Oft injured Bo Byram who is a giant question mark at this point
-D/D- ranked prospect pool amongst the very worst in the league

We won the Cup so it's all still a success. And not throwing in the towel for this year by any means. Just a lot of the positives from not too long ago, don't look like positives so much anymore. Just an observation. All it takes is Bo Byram to get his career back on track and to draft someone like a Colby Barlow/Ethan Gauthier/Charlie Stramel/Nate Danielson and have them turn into a home run and things look great again.

Adam Henrique on the trade block according to Pagnotta.

Now that's totally the kind of center I'm expecting the Avs to go after. Under contract for this season and next year.

I wonder what Anaheim would want for him with like 1.5M retained. He is versatile and still has decent stats.

Skip to 1:00:

Chychrun for Pinto didn't work...
I didn't know that. They love their Pintos in Ottawa. Pinto as a 3C looks like a luxury when their defense is so weak.

Looks like a plan C but not the worst thing in the world. Is he C full-time or more like a guy that is versatile on F positions?

According to Daily Faceoff he played wing on the first line last game so he can play both I guess.

They have Zegras, Strome and McTavish at C in the top 9.

Strome they don't really have a choice to play him with the contract that they gave him last summer...

Henrique has been on the block for 2 years.
Was likely much harder to trade (and retain) with that long contract

Now with only 1.5 year left this is probably exactly what the Avs are looking for

If Hovrat is gonna get 9 million in the off-season I don’t wanna spend the assets to have him as a rental. Columbus or Vancover

Just saying that isn’t news… he could have been had at any point (with retention) for years now including today. He’s also not really the solution to the Avs’ woes

I think you forgot that we have a generational defenseman in Cale Makar for the next 5 seasons. Worth the price of admission to watch him play.

And a transformed Val Nichushkin who went from someone we took a chance on to be a depth forward, to someone who can dominate a playoff series.

We're going to age out eventually, but I don't see how you can look at the team in 2019 with its "best prospect pool" in the league and compare it favorably to a team that's coming off of a Cup win, has three more bonafide elite players than the 2019 squad did going into the season, and has managed to convert those magic prospect beans into pieces that helped us win last season.

#2C is a must. Just be smart about it and don't blow all the cap on some 3rd liner. Overpay if you have to and get a long-term solution.

What would Henrique cost to acquire, with and without some retention?
Without retention, pretty much nothing. No team that can use him, can afford him nor want that 2nd year at a full rate. With 50% 2nd and meh prospect (C level) to 3rd and solid prospect (B level). A 2nd deal might have a 5th or pick like that go back too.
