Damn thing about stats...if you look just one column over it's not quite as ugly.....
Everyone is expecting these guys to come back after lengthy absences and just fire on all cylinders. Not really how it works. Also, decent chance of re-aggravating injury once it’s already occurred and you jump back into a high performance league full speed. If we can manage to get all of our guys back without additional injuries, and that is a huge if, we will likely go on a tear to end the season, we just need to stay within reach until then.
The ambulance squad just needs to play decent hockey and it will be a massive improvement on the iceEveryone is expecting these guys to come back after lengthy absences and just fire on all cylinders. The standings are based on points percentage. Rules such as the waiver priority list are based on points percentage and not total points. When the standings were set after the COVID shortened season they used points percentage.Damn thing about stats...if you look just one column over it's not quite as ugly.....

We've got a higher P% and 2 games in hand on Calgary and 3 on Edmonton respectively. Not saying we should be patting ourselves on the back. Just saying even with all this shit, we're still above fake .500. Barely. Once healthy, the guys will eat some points back up in the late winter early spring. The question is just how well they can gel for the playoffs.
Seriously though, why aren't the standings based on points percentage rather than points since there are always so many weird variances in games played throughout the season.
The flipside is, the healthy clubs' big boys who will play ~80 games all season long will get more mental/physical fatigue as the season progresses. I'm beginning to see more and more of the positives in this situation. Last season was a grind. The rest, even while injured, might be a blessing in disguise.Everyone is expecting these guys to come back after lengthy absences and just fire on all cylinders. Not really how it works. I'd love him here... I don't think Washington is ready to give up though.
Yeah I think Kuznetsov would be an amazing fit here and really solidify the next 2+ seasons. I'd also pay a ton to get him here. I just don't see Washington tearing it down prior to the summer of 2024. They'll write off this season as bad luck. Spend way too much next summer trying to solidify the team where they simply end up a low end playoff team. By that time Ovi is at ~860 (~25 more this year ~40 next), so they can frame the idea that he'll get ~40 over the next two. They're blind if they think their team is still capable of doing things in the playoffs next year. This year is already a write-off and they're damn old.
But like you have said, teams take too long to start rebuilds/retools. I'd imagine that they believe that as long as they have Ovie they try to compete.
Even if they don't believe that they are able to compete anymore, they might want to give Ovie a decent center while he chases the goal record.
I'd also love Kuznetsov here. We'd have him for three playoff springs if Avs were to acquire him this TDL. 1M retained he'd be 6,8M. I'd pay quite a lot in order to get him.
I think WAS' fans would be very upset with their FO if they don't keep the team competitive enough to help Ovi reach the goal record. They're blind if they think their team is still capable of doing things in the playoffs next year. This year is already a write-off and they're damn old.

Pretty much every team holds on too long and Washington is a perfect example. The Kuemper contract indicates Washington still believes they can compete
Dylan Strome is OFF THE TABLE!!!!Caps won't trade Ovi's center when he's chasing Gretzky's record
also holding on too long makes lots of money, fans still believe.Pretty much every team holds on too long and Washington is a perfect example.
Why not get OKC back while we are at it?If they deal with the Caps they need to get Nic Dowd. A distinct lack of Alabamians on the Avalanche.
Autocorrect is a scourge. Why not get OKC back while we are at it?
I think you’re missing the jokeAutocorrect is a scourge.
Doesn’t matter if they fire on all cylinders to be honest. The influx of talent alone will be enough if they don’t implode beforehand. A couple guys may struggle but there will those that hit the road running. Nuke and Mack most likely will be fine while Landy is an obvious candidate to start slow, along with Byram likely. Regardless, our top players playing at 70-80 of their capabilities when they return is still a massive upgrade from what we have currently, and likely enough to beat most teams.Everyone is expecting these guys to come back after lengthy absences and just fire on all cylinders. Huh, I thought he's been perfectly fine as a depth piece. There's plenty of other guys that have been worse.Kaut on waivers
