Only one of those is an option thoughBetween ROR, Toews and Horvat we have options at the deadline.

Options are always out there... cost and ability are the questions. ROR will cost (though he wants to re-sign), but looks like poo. Toews will cost and some salary cap issues... may also still be poo. Horvat will be very expensive if he hits the market. Larkin is the same story as Horvat. The Jet twins might hit the market if they start to struggle (or may not if they don't). Hayes is available.Between ROR, Toews and Horvat we have options at the deadline.
I don't know about that. He doesn't have a NTC anyways.Even if ROR wasn't cooked (which he is) there's 0 chance that he'd come back.
That contract thoughHayes is available.
You think Sakic wants him back?I don't know about that. He doesn't have a NTC anyways.
Yah I dont see ROR coming back here ever and thats fine. He has his cup we have ours. Let it die. Bring me Horvat.Even if ROR wasn't cooked (which he is) there's 0 chance that he'd come back.
Not really bad at all in today's values... and retention is possible. That contract though

If Sakic wouldn't even touch Stastny because of the way he left, imagine ROR (or even Barrie).Yah I dont see ROR coming back here ever and thats fine. He has his cup we have ours. Let it die. Bring me Horvat.
I know it happened with Burns and OEL but teams clearly don't like to retain for 3-4 years. They'd rather take a bad contract back (which we don't have). Not really bad at all in today's values... and retention is possible.
Of course teams would rather not, but it is clearly happening. With some future clarity on the cap coming in, teams are more okay with it today than they have been in the past couple years. Add to that the structure of the contract, the real money is less than the cap hit by a good margin too. So dollars wise it isn't as expensive as it seems.I know it happened with Burns and OEL but teams clearly don't like to retain for 3-4 years. Teams like SJ and AZ know they won't be competitive in the next ~3 years so cap retention don't hurt them that much.Of course teams would rather not, but it is clearly happening. Flyers are a bit delusionalTeams like SJ and AZ know they won't be competitive in the next ~3 years so cap retention don't hurt them that much.
However I'd say that the Flyers believe that they can be competitive so IMO they won't want to retain for that long, even if just 1M.
They've hired the wrong coach to tank, but the org really shows signs of one that know they are in the beginning stages of a rebuild/retool. Plus simply 1.5-2m puts that contract in the realm of high end 3C. It doesn't take much to tip the scales there. Hayes is at a prime regression age, but he's looked as good as he ever has so far this season and is playing a 1C role currently. He's also been a solid 2C for years now. If Philly retains to the low to mid 5s, they can get a very nice haul.Teams like SJ and AZ know they won't be competitive in the next ~3 years so cap retention don't hurt them that much.

Id definitely be calling Arizona about Nick Schmaltz. Depending on the severity of the injury, he’d be a really nice add to the top-6. Maybe something around Girard for Schmaltz.
Landeskog - MacKinnon - Nichushkin
Lehkonen - Schmaltz - Rantanen
Newhook - Compher - Rodrigues
Cogliano - Helm - LOC
Toews - Makar
Byram - Manson
X - EJ
The Avs need someone who bridges the gap of next year. Sam Bennett with 2 years (after this one) under 5M seems like someone that would make sense to them.I was on board with Schmaltz in the past but really, he's not anything more than a band-aid solution, and the Avs need to find something other than that.
Who that is, I'm not sure, might have to wait until closer to the deadline and see which teams get ready to trade away assets.

The problem is he makes more sense for Florida to keep. They have their own cap issues and getting rid of value contracts isn't a way to solve them. The Avs need someone who bridges the gap of next year. It depends on how things go. Lundell is in the queue as 2C. It also depends on the standings. Bennett might be the only viable 2C solution where Girard can be the main part of the trade from the Avs. Maybe Behrens and/or Olausson appeals to them if they're pushing for prospects? The problem is he makes more sense for Florida to keep. Florida is trying to win now and have better prospects than Behrens/OO already. When Lundell takes over the 2C role, Bennett is still paid under market for a 3C role... or he can move to wing. For what he brings to the table, Bennett is at least 1-1.5m underpaid. Probably a touch more. For a team that has some cap issues (not insurmountable, but exist), you don't give up value guys like Bennett and Verhaeghe when you're trying to contend. It depends on how things go.
