Crazy to see how terrible our bottom two D pairings have been playing. All rocking around a 42% xGF%.

To be fair, more than a small part of that is due to the depth issues the Avs have up front, but yeah, they definitely haven't looked great in their own regard.

I kind of want the Avs to go after Lafreniere if the Rangers decide to bail. Feel like he could be another Nuke if given the chance
Kakko or Laf would be amazing adds, but I don't think we have the ammo even if the Rangers are foolish to cut bait. Kirby Dach just returned the 13th overall pick, that's the bare minimum I expect the Rags will ask for.

If Gurianov if still struggling, I could see him being a buy-low candidate this offseason.

We're kind of full up on wingers anyway. Between Rantanen, Nuke, Landy, and Lehkonen, that's an entire top six worth of pure wingers right there. Unless you really want to upgrade on Lehky (or move Rants to C, which I think is pure fantasy) the top six wings are pretty set for the foreseeable future.

What we need badly are centers, of at least the middle six variety, and some serviceable bottom six forwards. Kakko and Gurianov are luxuries that we really shouldn't be spending cap space and assets on, even if the value may be there.

Seeing how they are doing without Landy and how good Rodrigues has been in a small sample I think 2C is not really the massive need everyone makes it out to be. This team is built around two way players and not that many of those are available for a reasonable price. And with how shaky the last few guys on the D have looked so far I don't really know what you can give up to get this mythical creature.

We were playing Columbus. Don't make too big conclusions out of it. They are in terrible form.

Imagine comparing this team to last years though. They're nothing alike and this team is significantly weaker. Case in point, Evan Rodrigues is the 2C.

I dont claim to be "the God of all Avs hockey knowledge" but if you honestly look at this roster and think 2C isn't a problem, that's simply a major issue with your evaluation of the lineup. It isn't just me claiming the 2C is a big problem, literally everyone sees the problem except apparently you and Sea Eagles whose nothing more than an eternal blind optimist with this team.
Careful now, you're on dangerous ground. You will be labeled as a fake fan and blocked if you disagree with ol' willy here

Stammer's pure, raw shooting talent signals he should be a threat for 60 every year... injuries, team depth, wear and tear all keep him from getting there. Not a doubt in my mind that if he had stayed healthy, he'd be a near lock for 700 career goals (still could get 600-650). A near 17% career shooter from a 3+ shot a night guy.

I want Puljujarvi for the same reason.
Never saw it with Puljujarvi even at the WJC. If I recall alot of people had him ahead of Laine prior to that and it made no sense to me when I watched the Finns play. The guys that stuck out were always Aho and Laine. Puljujarvi seems to have all the tools to be a really good player but hes not. Maybe a team like the Avs can get the best out of him but personally having seen him play almost every game in the NHL I just see a Finnish Tyson Jost. Both guys are loveable but thats about it.

I saw that list and first thing I said was "wtf Stamkos scores every game" lol
Yah he was scoring every game for me and then it stopped lol. Im entertaining trade offers for him right now lol

I see a guy in Puljujarvi who needs a coach to utilize him properly and make him understand that he must build himself into a dominant 200 foot player ala Nichushkin. Because to me it seems Puljujarvi/his agent have a distorted view of him being a top six player right now which isn't the case.

However, you can see promise when he plays. He's a hound on the forecheck, and while he doesn't throw many big hits he does put his body into opposing defenders to try separating from pucks. He just doesn't know what the f*** to do with the puck when he actually gets it.

Thats what I see from him always. I dont notice the puckhounding as much as I notice that when the pucks on his stick it dies. The odd time he will make a nice shot into the goalies chest but thats about it. It could be a confidence thing with him as im sure it was with Nuke up until last season really.

This is the whole problem with Poolparty... Guy has the hockey IQ of my left skate. All the physical tools are there and within a structure, he can follow things... when it gets free flowing, he's completely lost. When he has the puck he's completely lost. If he could show some growth in that area, you could likely make him into a very solid middle 6 winger who can play up or down. Without that growth, you simply get and incredibly talented player that coaches cannot trust on any given night... and his offensive production doesn't make him worth the trouble on most nights.

I also think there's a big difference between Puljujarvi and Nichushkin. With Val, going back to his pre-draft days he was dominating, taking defenders wide, putting his shoulder down and going to the net whenever he damn well pleased. Something was there, it just took a long time to unleash it.

That's never been the case with Puljujarvi. He's never been that dominant player. I think best case scenario for Puljujarvi he becomes a 3RW with occasional PP2 time as a net front presence. I don't think that will be on the Oilers, though.

Its only a matter of time before Puljujarvi is either in Dallas or Carolina.
