That's why I had an issue with the 6 year term at the time. Same with Makar. I'd rather have the two extra years for a bit higher AAV.
Nuke is elite two way winger. Come back when those guys win something..How? Nuke isn't anywhere near the skill level of guys like Hintz, Stutzle, Thompson... Those are basically the next wave of 1Cs in the league. Nuke is a complimentary Top 6 guy. Not the same at all. Not to mention Nuke is 3-4+ years older then those guys as well.
Landy is more higher end, but also a lot older. His contract will age considerably worse then the rest of those guys.
They aren't comparable at all really.
What a solid argumentNuke is elite two way winger. Come back when those guys win something..
These guys would cost way more if they won a cup, keep that in mind.
What a solid argument
They tried a bit, but not lately. Big reason he’s playing well is they gave up forcing it.Is dach playing C at all in Montreal?
Don't let the cherry-picking fool you. The Avs would be far, far better off with Kadri than Newhook right now
Didn't realize Kadri was this bad this year
No regret not giving a 32 year old a 7 year contract at all.Don't let the cherry-picking fool you. The Avs would be far, far better off with Kadri than Newhook right now
You might if they can't solve the 2C problemNo regret not giving a 32 year old a 7 year contract at all.
I mean who cares? The backend of all these contracts were signing won't matter. No regret not giving a 32 year old a 7 year contract at all.
6'3"!Guy had 72 points in 80 games last season and is pacing 90 points this season while being a pretty good defensive player.
He's absolutely worth 8M+.
It's possible that it might. If the Avs management get things right combined with the cap rising they can be a solid team for a while.I mean who cares? The backend of all these contracts were signing won't matter.
I mean I don’t think it will. Unless the Avs drafting takes a major U-Turn here I don’t see these contracts having a huge detriment to the team. It's possible that it might. If the Avs management get things right combined with the cap rising they can be a solid team for a while.
One thing is sure though, handing 7 year deals for players until they are nearly 40 will be a guaranteed way to be in cap hell very soon.
Entirely possible. However, the pro scouting has pulled rabbits out of a hat before and it might happen again. If that were to happen the Avs could stay pretty solid for quite a while, it would be really difficult though if they start handing Kadri type retirement deals.I mean I don’t think it will. I mean it would only come into effect if we’re able to effectively replace Mack, Mikko, or Landy really. And while the pro scouting has obviously been really good, it most likely won’t replace those guys.Entirely possible. Hand out Kadri type deals it becomes really difficult after another season or two. Show restrain and they can keep the show going longer. Bottom line I just don’t support bad deals.I mean it would only come into effect if we’re able to effectively replace Mack, Mikko, or Landy really. With the deals on the books now, and coming in the next two years... it is going to be hard anyway.Hand out Kadri type deals it becomes really difficult after another season or two. Show restrain and they can keep the show going longer. Bottom line I just don’t support bad deals.
We still don't know where the cap is heading, but the teams knew in June where things were heading from the NHL's perspective.I also think that no one knew the cap was jumping as high when the Avalanche were making the decisions and MacKinnon’s raise looming next year.
Considering ERod was the 2C prior to getting hurt I would argue that the Avs are starting to admit Newy is not a C. I would also argue that they don't yet feel urgency becauseWith the deals on the books now, and coming in the next two years... it is going to be hard anyway.
I get the why Kadri shouldn't have been re-signed. What I don't get is a lack of urgency to handle the 2C spot. Newhook clearly wasn't the answer and clearly still isn't the answer.
I mean that’s far from confirmed.I also think that no one knew the cap was jumping as high when the Avalanche were making the decisions and MacKinnon’s raise looming next year.
Even more to my point. If it's only a $1M or so raise you can be even thinner.I mean that’s far from confirmed.
