Why do you say that? It’s in line with Kyrou, Thomas, Barzal, Norris, Stutzle and Thompson. This is just the new waive of MacKinnon, Hall, RNH, Eberle, Monahan, Gudreau, Barkov, etc. of these up and comers being signed to comparable contracts that they still have to live up to.
We got lucky signing Nuke, Landy, and Rantanen so early. These prices are high.

The only issue with Mikko's contract is it ends in 2025. It was marketish value when he signed and is below now for how things have gone. If he extends with the Avs, his next will be ~13m.
That's why I had an issue with the 6 year term at the time. Same with Makar. I'd rather have the two extra years for a bit higher AAV.

So talent is not a question with a Foudy-Newhook-Galchenyuk line, but I feel it might be a little scary in the defensive end. Hopefully Foudy can be that guy who skates it out of trouble.

Then again some of the worst defensive shifts the Avs have had of late have come from the top line and top pairing, so...

I am more worried about the offense. Defense and goaltending are our strengths.

I wonder if Mikko is a trade target at the time if the Avs aren't as competitive.
He's going to want 8 years and big money. If we keep everyone at one point we'll have Mack, Makar and Rants in their 30's making between 12M and 15M each.

I do love that Bednar has no issue putting the kids together on a line, hopefully he'll also give them meaningful minutes. I imagine he has no choice because the alternative is to give them to that 4th line and he clearly doesn't trust those guys.

Bednar has been a great coach, we’ll see how he can adjust after the talent diminishes. You have to work with what you have can’t fit square blocks in round holes.

They'll have a pretty short leash IMO. Also Galchenyuk isn't a kid.

Eh, he's close enough as far as I'm concerned.

And really, they SHOULD be on a short leash. But Bednar knows he's got to use them like a scoring line so they should also be getting fairly sheltered minutes. It's the fourth line that'll likely only be getting about five minutes of ice time.

How? Nuke isn't anywhere near the skill level of guys like Hintz, Stutzle, Thompson... Those are basically the next wave of 1Cs in the league. Nuke is a complimentary Top 6 guy. Not the same at all. Not to mention Nuke is 3-4+ years older then those guys as well.

Landy is more higher end, but also a lot older. His contract will age considerably worse then the rest of those guys.

They aren't comparable at all really.

Centers also simply cost more than wingers with maybe the exception of elite top line wings who get paid elite wages regardless.
