Different management team. Sakic and company feel like a really loyal group with a great relationship with Bednar. I just don't see them axing their cup winning coach after one weak season.

Not to mention the crazy amount of success project players have here. Nichushkin, toews, Burakovsky, georgiev. Hard not to give credit to the coach for that. He was apart of the historically bad season and raised us up to a cup I think his leash is real long.

Eh, he wasn’t given a whole lot to work with, though in hindsight I wonder if a lot of that was an aging Sakic going into God mode and carrying the team on his back.

That said, I’m never letting this go, I’m still furious with Q for ruining that miracle run by putting Karlis Skrastins back in the lineup the final game of the season when the team was playing much better without him.

I would take Megna over Wyatt Smith any day. He used Brisebois in defensive situations. Yeah the shootout thing was annoying as hell, absolutely refused to practice it until it the media and fans more or less screamed in his ear to fix it.

And as good a rep as he has for preaching an up-tempo offensive system everywhere he goes he's surprisingly inconsistent when it comes to power plays. When the Avs struggled on the man-advantage he refused to make any adjustments IIRC. Hell, I'm pretty sure he had struggles at times when he had that bevvy of talent in Chicago too.

And his rep for mishandling goalies is well documented.

I wouldn't say it was crappy quite yet. Mediocre, yes, but not crappy. After Sakic was gone, the bottom dropped out.

Still, he got the Avs to some of their best offensive outputs with a ragtag roster, he deserves due credit.

I dunno, he's a legit #1 center. Not a top-tier elite talent, but still #1. And he complements their true franchise player quite well. That's well within market parameters.

I don’t see the issue with that deal. It’s the going rate and if anything only has potential to be a steal if the cap does something crazy over the next 3 years like some project.

Guy had 72 points in 80 games last season and is pacing 90 points this season while being a pretty good defensive player.

He's absolutely worth 8M+.

Why do you say that? It’s in line with Kyrou, Thomas, Barzal, Norris, Stutzle and Thompson. This is just the new waive of MacKinnon, Hall, RNH, Eberle, Monahan, Gudreau, Barkov, etc. of these up and comers being signed to comparable contracts that they still have to live up to.

PPG Center signed for all of his core years at what will essentially be under 10% of the cap for the entire duration of the contract(I'm aware it will be slightly above 10% for year 1).


Its a fantastic contract for a real solid 1C. Hintz is exactly that.

The only issue with Mikko's contract is it ends in 2025. It was marketish value when he signed and is below now for how things have gone. If he extends with the Avs, his next will be ~13m.

Hintz looks every bit a 30-40g 30-40a 2 way center. Anything under 10 will be a steal in a year or two for that caliber of player. How it relates to today... all the young 1Cs who haven't broken into the elite tier get that money. Suzuki, Hughes, Stutzle, Thomas, and Norris are all right in that realm. To get cheaper, you have to take a risk like Thompson as the first signs of breakout. Now I don't think Hintz will be the bargain of Stutzle or Hughes longer term as those two will be stars... but Hintz is a good 1C.
