I probably didn't state clearly... teams that play less games in the 1st and 2nd rounds, have a decided advantage in the 3rd and 4th rounds.
Oh, well yes then. I didn't need stats for that one.

Fewer chances of injuries, more energy and usually it's the better teams that dispose of the lesser teams quickly so they are more successful in later rounds.

Would be a really good buy low candidate. Right shot centreman who’s underperforming. The tools are definitely there.

He's a high risk player in his style... that could work for the Avs or could go very poorly. Not a guy I'd want in the locker room.

That's basically the theory behind it. Though we've seen pretty mediocre regular season teams go that route with early playoff success and not skew the numbers. LA barely made it in 2012 and cruised to the Cup. That was a team that was disappointing in the regular season more than bad (never were very good there), but when they got the right mix they took off.

Columbus has been waiting for the toolbox to arrive for him to put them all in for some time now. Not sure he's going to become a true center and he's got another year at 4M. I wouldn't want to have to shoe-horn that contract into place while adjusting to Nate's raise this summer.

To me he's a 3rd line player and I don't see him being more than that. If he's a healthy scratch in Columbus, with the opportunity he's had and with the center depth or lack thereof they have - I don't think he's the right guy for our #2C spot. He'd just be another Compher type...

Can we afford to give Horvat the Kadri contract if we trade for him assuming the cap goes up 4M? Or can we even afford 2.75M if Vancouver retains half this season if the team was healthy?

Easily for next year if the cap jumps 4 million.

It'll be tougher to grab Horvat a couple months before the deadline, as our ability to bank space has been severely compromised, but could be done with multiple retention...or JTC going the other way.

I almost think the question is, can we afford NOT to give Horvat the Kadri contract. I've been pumping Horvat's tires around here and would love to see him just come in and provide a steady presence. Whoever it is though, I think we've gotta go ahead and sign a contract to stabilize the position for 4 years give/take and deal with whatever the cap ramifications are this summer.

Eh. He's a UFA rental. His value has a capping point.

Avs should be all in after him for one more cup run.

Rather find a player who can solve this problem for years.

Then plug other leaks in the future with the assets we have left.

Buying "Horvat" every trade deadline becomes very expensive.

Personally I wouldn't do it every year either way. This wouldd be the last year spending a 1st round pick to try and win a cup IMO.

I think our window likely closes next year so whatever it takes to win this year, do it.

Get Horvat, extend him, then get semi capable bottom 6. Double shift Gabe, Nate, Nuke, lehks, Horvat, mikko throughout the bottom 6.

They wouldn't even necessarily need to do that.

If they do it right, I think they could have about $8M to spend on the bottom 6. Enough to get a couple decent 3rd liners like Stastny/ERod/Sheary/Heinen/Donato that all signed for $1-2M this summer. And then grab some veteran depth guys that want to chase a cup for 800k.

When is JT Miller's NMC kicking in? Is it July 1st?
I don’t recall if that was changed in the CBA, but used to be that any clause in the first year applied right away (since the recent extension prior to covid)
