Bednar blamed the forwards for how poorly the defense (mainly G and EJ) looked yesterday. You know what, it makes a lot of sense.

How else would ALL the dmen (minus Makar, perhaps) look worse than the previous 2 seasons both offensively and defensively? That's not possible.

What I think is happening is the offense cannot play like the D need them to play in order for Bednar's system to work. They need legit NHLers upfront to cover them properly defensively and help them offensively when needed.

Our bunch of AHLers can't do that so the defense is struggling at both ends of the ice, kinda stuck in no man's land.

That's on Bednar though, he should adjust his gameplan according to the assets he has in hand.

Considering the injury holes in our lineup this year, I think Bednar has been doing fantastic. Maybe at the cost of wearing down Makar, Rants, etc. though...

Well, he HAS adjusted his gameplan, you can see they’re playing a much more conservative style, a lot more dumping of the puck instead of controlled entries, which is their bread and butter.

Bottom line the forwards aren’t good enough, not generating enough chances nor are they possessing the puck long enough and that’s taking a huge toll on the overall defense. No amount of gameplanning is going to cover for that. And that’s before we even broach the subject of special teams.

If the defense is bad offensively and bad defensively then obviously something isn't right with the gameplan.

And it's not like we sacrifice the defense for offense, the forwards aren't scoring.

I'm not going to lose sleep over it though, we get our fair share of points with a shitty lineup so it works I guess. :dunno:

Thank God we're in the West.

I dunno what to tell you, they’re still winning a majority of games despite a ridiculous spate of injuries. Bednar appears to be doing SOMETHING right.

I'm not sure who has it worse, actually short people like me, or dudes who are 5'10 so they're considered short just cause they don't hit 6 ft. Honestly, I do alright for a hobbit IRL.
I fall in that group… 5’10/11” ish. Married now so it doesn’t matter for me anymore

Is the plan to waste assets and cap space on Laf to have a hole at 2C, 3C, and 4C?

I just don't get your post.

Newhook next year. Or UFA. Maybe all Laf needs is a MacK and a Rantanen!

And the C position is somehow worse than it is currently.

Toewes for the PO. Newhook, UFA (Comfy), Malgin. Foudy, Ambrosio, Makar, Buyalsky. Trade. Relax. We are not in a crisis. We are just giving our centers the chance to take one step forward. The Lafreniere trade is a nobrainer with our top line. This is one step towards a better third line as well.

One step towards a 1st round exit is what it is

I made a similar point earlier about our wingers. I think Bednar is doing what he can lol.

George needs to step up as well.
