Why do I feel like it’s gonna be Compher and a pick for Toews 50% retained coming up here once Naz officially signs with the Isles? Toews is not who he used to be but he still put up 37 points in 71 games while rotating between 2C and 3C at times. Kills some penalties. Put him between our 2nd line wingers and I bet he gets at least 50 points this season. JTC only has 1 year left so your not really giving anything future wise away.
It's not going to be this lol.

Toews will only be traded if a 3rd team is involved with 75% retention, or at the TDL when his cap hit is much more easily absorbed.

The Avs, though, aren't going anywhere near Toews. That we can almost guarantee.

God no to Toews.

Patrick Kane has a full NMC and thus controls his destination 100%. That being the case it might not take Newhook to get it done.
Yup.
That’s why I posted Kane’s comments earlier in the thread, and that it would be nice if the Avs could get a Florida/Giroux like treatment.

Ultimately, Kane could definitely neuter the return. All depends how flexible he wants to be.

Conversely, it would really suck if Kane turns around and says he only want to go to a competitor like Edmonton or LA.

LA is a competitor this season? Edmonton yes and if you are Kane thats probably the better spot considering the Avs have Georgiev in net.
LA is one of those teams that was decently good last year with some injuries in the playoffs.

They’re also one of the teams with a good chunk of very good prospects. It’s sometimes very hard to judge how the jumps and gains can be. Add Kane on top of that?

Think of where they were last year, pushing Edmonton to 7. Then add Fiala, a healthy Doughty and Kane. Improvements to By field, Vilardi, etc. They could definitely be a threat.

Don’t need Kane. One of the best offensive players in the league and one of the worst defensive players in the league. Put him at center and it’s probably worse, even surrounded by the Avs strong defensive wings.

Avs need to get an actual center.

Defense and goaltending. They shouldnt be competing against the Avs this season adding Kane to that roster doesnt worry me and Fiala lets see if he can do what he did last season again. If Byfield, Kupari and VIlardi make big leaps then you might be able to talk me into it but im still not convinced an over the hill Doughty and Shane Durzi should be competing with the Avs but you never know with Georgiev as goalie.

Don't forget though, all their best vets will also be 1 year older. Kopitar, Quick, Doughty aren't all going to play forever.

Could probably get him for less to save them cap. Compher for Pageau. Bjorkstrand went for peanuts after laine signed. I don’t really like pageau contract but he would fit like a glove.
The Isles would only save a paltry 1.5M on the cap this year.

Better than spending assets to send a guy out. But I hear you, it isn’t much. I wonder what Macfarland has up his sleeve though as he’s still hanging around for something.

Probably waiting for desperate players that didn't get a good contract offer and would be willing to sign one year for cheap with the Avs to pad their stats for next year's UFA season.

It would be the smart thing to do! Both for the Avs and the players.

Context should be there that Wheeler has been Newhook's biggest fanboy outside Newfoundland.

To me if he tops out as a #2 than your saying a 21 year old is completed developing and will stagnate the rest of his career.

Yes. Wouldn't be the first time a top prospect entered the NHL at a high level and never developed any higher. Wouldn't be the first time and won't be the last either. The prime years for a player continues to trend younger and younger.

It isn't 2005 anymore where a players prime was from 25-29 years. Guys are coming into the league at higher snd higher levels and are peaking younger and younger. 22-26 is pretty much the prime range at this point and it isn't uncommon at all for good young players to enter the league at peaky level.

Jesus. If this is true we have to get rid of the Nate-Dog asap. His new contract will be a horrible one right from the get go! We are so fuuuhuucked!

He’s still gushing over Newhook’s speed/skating, even though he’s nothing more than average in the NHL now. Wonder if he watches any games.

Oh no, I would LOVE that. Put Draisaitl, Kane, and McDavid on the ice and watch the chances against pile up. That could be a formidable power play however...but I don't know if Kane moves the needle that far to the point where I'd be worried.
