Why is discussing trade ideas so controversial? I'd move Makar and MacKinnon if it improved the teams chances of winning a cup (*board rages that someone wants to trade Makar*...)

People get so attached to the players its kind of weird.

Whatever makes the team better and gives the team the best possible chance to win the cup, that's what they should be looking to do. Dont get the sentimental attachment to players.

Yeah I'd trade Byram for Lundell if Florida would. Not a chance they do that though. Lundell is a superstar in the making and the perfect 2C behind Barkov long term.

They'll move Bennett in 2 years time when Lundell is an RFA to make room for him in the Top 6.
What do you think Zito should do to address that tire fire defense?

JTC + Newhook + 1st for Kane @50%. Also send Arizona a 4th round pick to get another $1.75M retention on Kane(Which gets Arizona just above the cap floor as well) so we get Kane at $3.5M

Sign Stastny and Rodrigues at 1x1.75M each.

Landy - Mack - Nuke
Kane - Stastny - Mikko
Lehky - Meyers - Rodrigues
LOC - Helm - Cogliano
Sedlak
I’d swap nuke and kane. Or just move rants back up. There’s a little more play making with both thre lines and puck retrieval that way. IMO

People can be very high on Lundell and rightfully so.

I can also be extremely high and bullish on Bo Byram. He's going to be surefire #1 franchise defensemen. You don't do what he did as a 20 year old on the road to a f***ing Stanley Cup championship and not be special.

It's a shame he'll always be behind Makar on this team for PP time because if he was truly unleashed I believe the offensive numbers would be through the roof once his shot improves.

Outside of Cale Makar and Nathan MacKinnon, Bo is the most untouchable Avalanche player for me.

I dunno, possibly nothing. You can win a cup with a mediocre defense. Ekblad + whatever else they have might be enough to win honestly, with the forwards they have.

But if they're to make a move, I'd probably look at Chychrun or Provorov(Assuming Philly sucks again). They wont have to give up Lundell to get either of those guys I dont think and they can probably dump Hornqvist in the trade as well.

Cale > Bo > Nate.

If I were a GM, I would agree here. But as a fan, I think it is only natural to get an emotional attachment to certain players, as you follow their ups and downs. Plus how can you not get emotionally attached to the aesthetics of watching certain players play in their unique style? Watching Makar skate every game gives me a sort of pleasure that I can't get from watching any other player. Even players in the middle of the lineup have their own quirks to their play style that are recognizable.

Nah man... I was his hype man from the very beginning of that season. Fun fact... Stutzle would have been drafted #1 if Detroit picked 1st.
Not surprised by that. Funnily enough I was drafting for Detroit in that mock draft. I wanted a clean sweep of the Germans with Reichel as well.

You don’t understand how people get attached to other people? Is this a serious critique??

I would just call him untouchable period. The level that he was playing at in the playoffs at a fresh 21 years old with all the disruptuions in his development was amazing. I'm excited to see him continue to develop.

Exactly.

#1 defensemen are extremely hard to find. We are just lucky we have 3 of them. Next year as Byram progresses we will have 3- top 10 Dmen.

You win Championship's with Elite dmen who can play 25 minutes a night.

Dont really care about any of that personally, nor do I really understand why people care about that. You dont know them personally, they dont know who you are... Different strokes for different folks I guess.

As long as these guys are on the Avs then yeah its aweseome to watch them play and to witness Makar on ice, and seeing the joy of them winning the cup was awesome and what makes it worth it. But that's also all because they're Avalanche players. If Mackinnon wasn't an Avs player I wouldn't care one bit about him. If Makar played for Calgary I would not care at all about watching him on the ice.

Its like, Nichushkin is probably my favorite Avs player of all time at this point, but if management decided trading him tomorrow was the best way for this team to win a cup, I'd probably completely disagree with them, but it wouldn't change my fandom. I'm still an Avs fan. In 2 months from now I wouldn't be watching any Nichushkin games, I'd be watching Avs games.

In what world has a team won a Stanley Cup without at least 1 elite #1 Dman and another solid top pairing guy?

Their forwards are enough to win a cup? Are you serious? Are you forgetting they just got swept by TB? They lost Huberdeau and Giroux and added Tkachuk at forward and lost their top pairing Dman in Weegar. They are arguably worse than they were last year.

They will be lucky to make the playoffs with that D nevermind win a Cup.

This is about as stupid of a hot take as saying faceoffs don't matter. Wasn't that you saying that too?

Trevor Daley - Justin Schultz
Olli Maata - Brian Dumolin
Ian Cole - Ron Hainsey

You wanna tell me who the elite #1D is in that group, or the second Top pairing guy is.

Also if we're in the business of using 4 game sample sizes to declare something as fact... Florida got swept by the Bolts because of Mackenzie Weegar, he alone was directly responsible for 3 of those 4 losses with blunders he created.

The one consistent thing for winning that I’ve seen since the cap, is that nearly every single team had some level of #1 dman (not necessarily elite) and a #1 Center (again, not necessarily elite). That Pittsburgh team definitely broke the mold.

After that, I can’t see any other consistencies other than being a F’ing good team!
