That deal is a steal but Canucks still have a shit defense.

It's not that bad. I think we're just spoiled because of the Defense we have here being so elite.

Quinn Hughes alone makes it low end playoff caliber. Comparable to Edmonton, Florida, Dallas, Pittsburgh.

Use Horvat and/or Garland to get one more Top 4D and they could be in business, they have a good team offensively now.

I really don't understand why they signed Miller for 8M X 7 instead of 7M X 8 like we did with Landy. Not like this contract will age well anyway.

They are wasting 1M of cap space during his prime.

Vancouver was in on Rodrigues so maybe that’ll make that shoe drop.

(Probably not though but we’re all desperate)

Not desperate for bottom 6 average players lol. Teams good enough to wait rather then spend just for the sake of it.

A steal?

Nope. Can't afford that.

We offered naz 7x4, we can afford it. Caps going up. Depends what he wants aswell.

Horvat's stats are nothing exceptional.

Maybe he won't be that expensive to re-up after all.

I think that Miller contract is pretty fair. I wouldn’t say steal personally just because of his age. It’s the same thing with all these guys who signed this off-season that are 29+, there’s not a ton of runway left.

It keeps the Canucks relevant. I like their forward group a lot and their goaltending can cover up some of the weaknesses on defence.

Dater has 7-8 teams on ERod

He was quoting his agent.

"His agent, Darren Ferris, told ESPN that there are "a good seven or eight teams" he's having discussions with about Rodrigues and hopes to have something done soon.

"There are two or three teams that we feel he's a good fit with, but there are cap restraints. There are guys trying to move [money] to make room for it," said Ferris, who took over representation of Rodrigues from Peter Fish during the offseason.

I’d rather sign miller to that contract than kadri to his.
It's similar value.

Keep in mind that Miller's contract only kicks in in 2023-24. He's going to be 30 and makes 1M more AAV than Kadri.

It was 6x4. And guess what? With less term, you need to actually pay more with players of that age.

Yeah I’m aware how the market works lol. All I’m saying is we can afford a 7m price tag for a 2C so If horvat is in that range we can afford it. The cap will be going up, easy math really.

I could see Milano being a good fit if Helm took him under his wing and showed him what it takes to be a Pro. But I think we already have too many guys competing for that spot. Would only make sense if the plan was to move Rants to 2C and go after a 3W.

Here's some guys I'd tender PTOs to:

Harrington
Svechnikov
Perreault
Ennis
Ritchie

Ultimately I think guys like Motte and Milano get contract offers. I've been saying Svechnikov could be a Nuke-lite for a while now.
I mean, I would be looking at Milano for the 3rd line RW. I'm not convinced LOC's motor can handle those minutes. And it showed last season when the minutes were getting too much he became much less effective, even away from the puck. That's why I've been saying we need one more signing before the start of the season. Simply to push LOC to the 4th line and keep the AHL guys in the AHL.

Of course, this all becomes moot the minute we trade for and extend Bo Horvat. This pushes JTC to 3rd line RW and all is right with the world.

how does Vancouver afford petterson and horvat? let's go acquire horvat.
It would have to be Girard going the other way and I'm not sure they are interested because they already have Hughes who's a better version of Girard (with similar flaws too).

You know Vancouver is 100% asking for Byram though.

Still not seeing anyone entering the season in better shape in the West. Worry about the East in June. The betting odds reflect this, Avs way out in front at this point.

Random thought:

What if the Canucks keep their captain (who they love) and trade EP (who they had issues with recently) instead?

Double up on Defense, Girard+Behrens for double forwards Horvat+podkolzin or lekkerimaki.
