Oilers D is still brutal. Murray will get hurt 2 min into his first game. (Which will be in December ‘cause he got hurt in pre-season)

I noticed the other day Holland is paying $4.17M next season for Lucic (salary retention), Neal (buyout), Sekera (buyout); Neal's buyout still has three years left on it.

The game has passed him buy, but I'm sure he's going to get a lot of milage out of the Evander Kane signing + WCF Finals berth last year.

Avs have $4 million in cap space. Something should be done with it. Even Murray at 1 million I would’ve done

Guess Cmac and co. figure it’s more important to have ~20 million of banked cap space at the deadline then have a full complement of top 9 forwards. Interested in how that’ll play out at the deadline.

If you're looking at Cap Friendly, that's $3.9 million in cap space for a roster with 21 players (and only 11 forwards). Add in Ben Meyers and it's only $3.0 million. Then add in Anton Blidh (or whoever wins the roster spot out of camp), and it's closer to $2.2 million if we want to carry a full compliment of 23 players.

Also, as we've talked about a few times this off-season, Byram, Newhook, and Myers might hit their bonuses, and we don't want them to apply to next year's cap, when we'll be even more constrained due to MacK's new contract (assuming something unexpected doesn't happen). So while it looks like there is considerable room, due to the uncertain status of the ELC contract bonuses, I think it's clear that there is a preference to bank cap space to absorb any hit bonuses and/or make more moves at the TDL.

No doubt something will be done with it. But I think we should save it until the season gets underway and we'll see where we need it. If Rantanen, Compher or Newhook can take that 2nd C role, spend it on a winger. If they can't, get a center. Maybe Georgiev fails and we need another goalie? Maybe someone important from the D-corps goes down long term.

Winning the championship puts things into perspective, the regular season really doesn't matter as long as you get in. Now of course being the highest seed helps and this should not be downplayed, but unless something catastrophic happens we should still be competing for the Presidents Trophy. No need to make hasty movements now. Find the perfect fit, wherever that may be.

Spending just to spend is pointless. We signed Murray to 2 mil and he barely played all year.
When it's 750k it's not like it has any effect on your cap anyway. It's either him or the guy who's replacing him.
