I think the corpse of Jonathan Toews is a possibility too.

He's done in Chicago and agnostically Colorado makes the most sense; they're the team in the NHL, with a donut of a 2nd line.

Toews had a career worst year, but he was on an awful team, and at least most of his production came in the 2nd half. The dude seems a bit like a jerk too. But either way, I think the possibility is there.

I'm not vouching for him, for the record. Just throwing it out there.
I’d take a look at Toews. Could be had for cheap he’s made lots of money too. Probably distracted by the Beech stuff last year and he had the covid issues. He could be a good buy low guy that still has juice. We also don’t need a lot of points from that position.

Boy the love for Naz sure died off quick.

That whiny little bitch who was complicit in the Beach situation and is well, WELL past his prime has no business being around a winner ever again.

What I don't get is how fast people turned on Naz. I get that he is a divisive figure but he bled for us in our run to the cup. He will give and get no pass when he is on the ice as an opponent but I will continue to be grateful for his cup contribution. At least until he injures an Av.

Can’t be surprised though right? It’s as if people were waiting for an excuse to do so. The minute he said “run it back” to hype up his hometown crowd on his day with the Cup, geez, can’t do that.

Oh and he didn’t wear Avs gear (I mean, he’s a Flame now, why would you blame him) but members of his family did. How dare he!

Why would anyone be excited about Naz saying he’s going to ‘run it back’ in Calgary?

We’re Avs fans here.
Who said you had to be excited about it?

What else is he supposed to say at his new team?

No need to be excited about it but it’s literally no reason to turn on a guy who was an instrumental part of our success.

I’m not turning on him at all. It’s just weird to say, ‘we’re going to run it back’ when you’re not with the team that won it last year.

Still a Naz fan, but ultimately I’m about the Avs first and foremost. I don’t cheer for non Avs players. I can enjoy watching them, but that’s where it ends.

Realistically they're going to address the 2C position sometime in the season after they give Newhook and Meyers a shot. This team is still really good and won't have any issues winning in the regular season

What unproven potential are you referring to? Nuke has consistently been a great player. In a limited role with limited players. You put him on the top line there was a very real possibility he wins the con smythe. I trust sakic he’s been a genius and that vision won us a cup. You speak in generalities that quite frankly don’t apply here.

First of all, let's establish that in my personal like list. Nuke follows only Makar. I'm not trying to slander the guy, nor troll this board.

You are correct that I was speaking generally. All 32 GMs would be wise to follow that strategy, in general, and I'd say about 20 of those always do. The other dozen or so are routinely ridiculed on this board.

As for Nuke and his theoretical Conn Smythe, you are basing that on a small sample spent on the top line. Donskoi looked good with Mac and Mikko for a while last year. Calvert looked pretty good for a stretch on the top line. In 2013, Jagr proposed that Nuke would go down as one of the best ever. It took Nuke 9 years to even find a little time on the top line. 9296 remains our top line, meaning that Nuke is actually an elite 2W at best. Forecasting what he will be in 8 years is an interesting science project. This is precisely what I meant by unproven potential. Has Nuke stung together a half season on the top line yet? Nope. Has he scored 30 points in back to back years? Nope. Does he have any 60 point years? Nope.

I like Nuke a great deal, but to say that this deal is based on production is incorrect.

This.

It was a dumb thing to say, especially when there are still Avs fans out there that are disappointed that we couldn't keep him.

Does that mean we don't appreciate what he did for us? No, but have some respect for what you and your former team did last season, and the fans that cheered you on.

people are jus fickle that way unfortunately. its how society is now. same thing happens in other sports when an important player moves on to another team. All players in sports (nfl, football, nhl, nba, mlb etc)are transitional employees. I have never really understood the hate when a player moves to a better paying team. Its a job and we would do the same if we played the game. Loved naz and am very grateful for him. He wont be easy to replace (grit and skill) and i wish him and his family all the best...

Does anyone else wishes you would hibernate during offseason and wake up in October when season started, or its just me?
Imagine doing that and then waking up to find out your team traded away someone like Pavel Buchnevich and replacing him with two knuckle-draggers like Ryan Reaves and Sammy Blais.

Most Rangers fans I know were more than happy to part ways with him and see the team “get tougher.” Doesn’t mean they’re right but that’s how they feel.
