Toews is one of my fav players of all time. He was a beast in his prime. He’d put up points here and be a very good 2C. He’d need to find a new number, though. He wears #16 for Canada.

Do we know from the investigation, what exactly Toews involvement was in the Beach situation? I haven't followed the details super close.

His comments about downplaying what he knew and his involvement seemed suspicious to me, especially when he was defending Bowman and MacIsaac at the same time and saying they shouldn't have been let go.

I'm a bit worried that like everyone else in that situation, he's not being completely honest about what he knew and did. If he was involved in covering it up or was one of the teammates that made fun of Beach, I don't want him on the Avs.

If not he could be a good buy low target at 50% around the deadline.

It is still a pretty large if on him being a 60+ point player, but even if he does, he’s due to regress below that in the second half of the contract.

I also don’t think he’s a first line level player. High end 2nd liner maybe… but only one season of it. He can prove that wrong or right.

Nuke could have gotten a 7x7 deal and could have squeezed more. That doesn’t make it a good contract though. Not the worst, but not the best.

My issue with Nuke’s contract isn’t Nuke… it is a crap ton of money at wing with basically none and bottom 9 center. In a cap world, you have to pick and choose spots to spend money. 22+m on 3 wings isn’t really wise when you’re looking at Compher as the 2C. Still could have been solved by shooting EJ to the moon. Eventually the wing salaries are going to bite.

I don’t think he’s an elite 1st liner, or anything, but I’d say he was a top line forward this season when you look at the body of work in the regular season and playoffs.

You always have to remember with Nichushkin’s production that his numbers come primarily at even strength.

Agree with your thoughts on the wing position. It’s getting awfully pricey.

Unless a team loads up with a top line, you don't usually see three top line players playing on the top line anyway.

Mikko's a top line level player but he played RW on the second line in the playoffs and Val played with Nate. If you swap Mikko and Val, it wouldn't make Val's contract any better.

$6.125M is more in line with a high end 2nd liner than a legit top line player anyway. Especially if the cap makes a big jump in a couple years.

I still think it is generous calling him a first liner last season. Guys like Killorn are more similar to Nuke and similar at even strength. Still he very likely had his career season (or will have that within one or two) and if that is his peak, he’s more 2nd liner and getting lower over time on the contract.

I’m not sure he’s had his career season yet.

He’s probably going to get extended time with MacKinnon this year if the Avs keep the wings the same as they did in the playoffs.

Either way… high end 2nd liner, low end 1st liner, I’m not too worried about that contract. Nichushkin is a bull.

He would be a considerable step down from Kadri. If y'all thought Mack's defensive game was bad...hoo boy

You think that this team swapping Scheifele and Kadri would have been that detrimental? I'm not saying Scheifele's defense is good or anything but this team is very very good and even with Scheifele at 2C would dominate.

You’re betting on nukes future not his past. Which isn’t horrible. Come on folks don’t over think this

PLD? Do you not remember his days in Columbus? He was a horrible player and worse team-mate. The guy is as big of a diva as it gets. You never win with guys like that.
this is not true at all he asked to leave since he was in conflict with Tortorella. the previous season he was an important factor in the columbus victory over Tampa. With strong leaders like the Avs have, it will be a great addition.

Wonder what the holdup is with Horvat re-signing. If he doesn't want to stay in Vancouver then that's who the Avs should target.

Olausson + 1st at the TDL or Newhook+ if Horvat indicates that he's open to signing in Colorado.

The Avs are ahead of the curve on this one by recognizing its not just about scoring points. Doing things which lead to a lot of possession that, in turn, leads to points has tremendous value at 6.125 m.

Same with Lehkonen.

He was asked to leave because he quit on the team.

I don't want any players like him anywhere near this team.
