Dater thinks Nate will get $14.5M.
What the f***? There’s no way lol unless the league knows cap is rising substantially without a doubt in mind.
Dater thinks Nate will get $14.5M.
I wouldnt be surprised if $14.5M is Nate’s starting point. Avs are at 9. They meet around $12MDater thinks Nate will get $14.5M.
All of this hysteria the last few weeks over Nate's next contract, trading Mikko, the window shutting, etc, because of one Adrian Dater rumor about Nate seeking to be the highest paid player in the NHL.
Everyone talks about Dater like he's a hack until he says something that gives people an opportunity to act like the sky is falling. Then all of a sudden he's Elliotte Friedman.
To be fair, Elliotte Friedman said exactly the same thing yesterday on 32 thoughts. That it's possible MacKinnon will become the highest paid player in the league. All of this hysteria the last few weeks over Nate's next contract, trading Mikko, the window shutting, etc, because of one Adrian Dater rumor about Nate seeking to be the highest paid player in the NHL.

Then you woke up realizing you had a nice dream. That will not happen because of what’s all about - money.Nate says 13 Avs say 10 or 10.5 they meet in the middle we get our discount and he gets a solid contract nothing to worry about
On the main board, someone posted the cap could go up as much as 10 million in a couple of years.Dater thinks Nate will get $14.5M.
Within the last week both Seravalli and Bill Daley have said similar. Things are going better than expected for the league. They weren’t really expecting any big cap jumps until 2024 or 2025 but it’s starting to look like we could see it a year from nowOn the main board, someone posted the cap coukd go up as much as 10 million in a couple of years.
I sure as f*** hope that the management isn't thinking like this after 1 cup and a young core including 23 yo Cale Makar signed for 5 more years.I don't really care what we pay MacKinnon at this point, we won our cup and he deserves the money after being so underpaid for years.
Daly said after 23-24… not next summer.Within the last week both Seravalli and Bill Daley have said similar. Things are going better than expected for the league. They weren’t really expecting any big cap jumps until 2024 or 2025 but it’s starting to look like we could see it a year from now

If only we heard the exact same thing from... idk... Elliotte Friedman himself.... then we could truly take it seriously.
Friedman said it was a POSSIBILITY he could end up the highest paid player and he just got that from Dater. Dater said he WILL be the highest paid player. Friedman doesn't have any sources in Colorado, so he always uses Dater.
Difference being Friedman doesn't make things sound definitive when he doesn't know. Dater intentionally says everything definitively, hoping that if it turns out to be true, he'll look like a genius. That's why he's been burned so many times.
Yeah if only.....still waiting....

Lol if the Avs are starting 9M, Nate might as well walk as that is completely insulting.I wouldnt be surprised if $14.5M is Nate’s starting point. Avs are at 9. They meet around $12M
I sure as hell hope they aren't playing hardball with one of the top 5 players in the world, who was equally important to the Cup as Makar.I sure as f*** hope that the management isn't thinking like this after 1 cup and a young core including 23 yo Cale Makar signed for 5 more years.
And how the f*** would you know that? Friedman is close to player agencies.
No he didn't say that. This is exactly what he said:
NHL sources tell Colorado Hockey Now that the MacKinnon camp is expecting the star center to become the highest-paid player in the league on his next contract.
Except that he didn't.
That wasn't your best post. Did you get enough sleep?
Except Elliotte didn't say the same as Dater. All he said was that Nate could end up the highest paid player. Could doesn't mean is going to. And it sure as hell doesn't mean 2M higher than the highest paid player like Dater is suggesting. 12.51M. Still makes him the highest paid player. If only we heard the exact same thing from... idk... Elliotte Friedman himself.... then we could truly take it seriously.
There's a long history of teams rewarding their players for what they have done in the past and none of them were successful after that.I sure as hell hope they aren't playing hardball with one of the top 5 players in the world, who was equally important to the Cup as Makar.
We have no shot at success without 29.
And if 29 walks you can pretty much guarantee 8 walks at the end of his deal because he won't want to play on a shit team.
You get Nate signed and figure it out from there. The only two players on this team that truly matter are 8 and 29. Everyone else is expendable in comparison to those two.
So roll with Compher as 1C while jettisoning a top 5 player in the world who backpacked your franchise for 5 years... seems like a bold strategy. There's a long history of teams rewarding their players for what they have done in the past and none of them were successful after that.
