Rumor: 2022-2023 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Let’s Run it Back!

The deals we made, made it worth it for this cup run, but my point is I don't feel we can continue doing that, at some point we need to let the cupboards fill back up.

Nah, empty the tanks. Time is now. It’s so hard and takes so long to get to where we are, gotta maximize your opportunity. There’s no guarantee we’ll be back. Look at Toronto.

Did you like the Sens' Tyler Boucher pick last year? I know a lot of scouts had him end of first round or beginning of second round and Ottawa took him at #10. Too early to tell I guess, although I've read that Boucher had a rough development year. Pick gave me Garth "I'm smarter than anyone else" Snow vibes from back in his Islanders days.

Stating Dorian has a great eye does not equal liking every move. I certainly wouldn't have picked him at 10, but the draft last year was a known commodity of could go any direction... I think he's going to be a great NHL 3rd liner someday. But there isn't more than that in him, bad value at 10... but a NHL player. That isn't the first or last move Dorian makes that people widely pan. Sometimes they work... sometimes they don't. Nature of the beast.

For the record I don't think the Avs should OS Sandin, I was merely.making the point that that would be the way to go if a team wants to take advantage of their cap situation. Avs don't need a Dman with his profile, nor is Toronto an organisation that you want to piss off given how easy it is for them to retaliate with a big OS of their own full of signing bonuses that the Avs may not match.
Gotcha. I don't think Toronto needs to be messed with. They still haven't realized that the Nylander contract was a mistake - not a mistake in the sense that you don't sign a player like that but a mistake in the sense that he's a WINGER and they've always needed that part of the cap allocated to a defenseman of that value/caliber instead. TJ Brodie isn't going to cut it. They're still thinking adding vets who can no longer skate on their last legs is the way to go.
I think Nichushkin has Avs over a barrel. Kadri has priced himself out and Sakic has to resign Nuke. Since he already has a history of contract demands I think he’ll ask 7 million AAV and not budge. If I were Sakic, I do it.
I wouldn't do it. I keep mentioning how other teams could be wary of a player who's put up real good numbers only once and that's in a contract year playing for the best team in the league. I'm not saying it WON'T happen and some idiot isn't going to throw 7X7 at him because it could happen - but I don't think that team should be the Avs.

Let's not forget that it could be the Avs too who end up regretting that deal. Put it this way, if I have a choice between paying Nuke $7M per year and paying Forsberg $8M - at that point, I'm going with Forsberg. Even though he's often injured, he's a better, more proven offensive player. I think the only way that works though, is if the Avs were able to get a solid #2C that's already signed at a good price (Gourde - $5.1M for the next 3 years).

Nuke at ~7m is just very bad value here. Even at ~6m it is bad value. Doesn't always mean don't do it, but understand how it works and the implications it ends up having.

Without Nuke Avs don't come close to winning vs. Tampa. He was dominant enough to singlehandedly shift the series from being Tampa-favored to Colorado-favored. I think his play style is perfectly suited to the playoffs.

Nuke's forecheck in the playoffs was a thing of beauty. Reminded me so much of what Vegas did to us the year before. Teams couldn't even get going out of their own zone when Nuke was on the ice.

Pay that man his money.

Has any player ever profited more from being big than Josh Anderson? Dude got $40m on the back of just one 25 goal season

Hasn't Dubois been quite public about wanting to go to UFA in 2 years so he can go play in Montreal?

Yeah I’d say that too if I was on a tire fire team located in one of the worst NHL cities to play in. I honestly think he’d sign long term for the right team and 8x8 is nothing to scoff at.

If that's the case, I go get Mikheyev, try and get Marchment from Florida, and let Nuke walk.

You know... I haven't seen anyone suggest the idea of signing Zadorov to be our 2C. For the longest time he was projected to be our 1C.... I think he'd be an excellent 2C and he's only asking for $4.5M.

Just a thought.
Maybe we can trade Girard for Zadorov's signing rights to ensure we have a better chance of signing him?

I'd love to see Chara, Zadorov and Meyers all on a forward line together. It would be like watching three giraffes get mauled by a bunch of hungry lions.

Some noise on the main board about Dallas wanting to move Faksa for capspace, and some people even suggesting that Nill would add a pick to move him.

@henchman Are you still bullish on Faksa, or is that too big of a contract/risk at this point?

As a pure defensive center, he's fantastic. He just has zero offense to his game. I'd take him quite easily as a 3C

I love the result but hate the process, because I look at what could happen if we continue down that path.

I hate the 40 point season just as much as I love the cup :)
What the f*** does this even mean? Any and all picks/prospects spent to win a Cup are worth it, full stop. The Avs just achieved what many teams haven't in decades and some have never and will never because they didn't have that ridiculous asset preservation mentality. And thank God for that. "Maybe" worth it...gimme a break.

No chance I do Nuke at 7.
$6mx6 or 5.5m x7 is the sweetspot.

Seems like a good deal.

Acquire Faksa and a pick from Dallas, then trade JTC for a pick. Essentially JTC for Faksa and two picks. #Profit

(Not sure I believe Nill would pay to move Faksa though)
