By all accounts I’ve heard, zero chance he’s moved… but that would be a hell of a move

I would be absolutely shocked if it happened, but he would be one of the guys that I could really see being as much of a threat as Vasilevsky from a goaltending perspective. Unless of course the Avs have a Lundqvist in the system we simply don’t know about and they suddenly explode onto the scene.

Dorian is probably the most involved GM in amateur scouting
Dorion has very little help and he's wearing many hats in that org. They are/were extremely understaffed under Melnik. Some journalist posted an article a couple of years ago that was showing that the Leafs and Habs hire 4-5 people to take on all the responsibilities that Dorion has. Dude works his ass off.

Zero idea why anybody would pay a price for Anderson. Legit don’t get it with that guy…

Those questioning Dorion’s talent evaluation ability are out to lunch though. Guy has a fantastic eye… just has been hamstrung by ownership.
Dorion is like that team that's constantly picking in the top ten in the NFL and the draft experts claim they win the draft every year, yet the team always stinks. At some point, talent and potential has to mesh and actually turn into viable results.

Yup… Anderson is simply a toolsy 3rd liner that drives you crazy. Has all the tools you could ever want, but he’ll never give you what you need. Forward version of Z is very applicable.

Of note too… Dorian is probably the most involved GM in amateur scouting

He drafts well, but hasn’t put together a winning roster in 6 years.

Sakic doesn’t draft well and put together a power house team that contends every year and won a cup.

Dorion hasn’t showed the ingenuity in finding trade targets, or scouting NHL talent.

There comes a time where any team will turn around if they’re bad for so long and I’m sure the Senators are getting there, but Dorion was given an awfully long leash.

I'm on the trade G train, but it needs to be for an impact player, someone that will fill a real need.

Gibson
Miller
Barzal
Chychrun

Maybe even a Carolina deal if Necas is on the table.

If you were a fan of those guys teams would you trade any one of them for G?

We would have to seriously add to even think of getting any one of those guys.

I suggested Barzal and Mayfield for Girard and Newhook and the only way it might make sense for NY is because Barzal is a pending RFA already on a 7m deal and Mayfield is a pending UFA.

.
How long did it take from the Matt Duchene draft to a Stanley cup win? Dorion went on a full rebuild, those take a long ass time.

Sens future core players are super young, some not even in the NHL yet.

That's also why he wants to trade his 7OA pick for immediate help, at one point you've got enough prospects and you need to take the next step.

I wasn't thinking it would be G straight up for any of them. Any deal would obviously be more complex than that. And those guys are listed because of rumors that they may be on the block. If you're a GM, and you need a puck moving D, G, and that contract, is gonna look pretty good.

I'm on the trade train, but I don't think G is terrible or anything. He's simply the best asset we have to make a deal right now.

Fleury @$2M
Trocheck @$5.5M
Forsberg @$8.5M
Lehkonen @$4M
Nuke @$5.5M
Edler @$1.75M

Trade Girard to NYI for 2023 1st + 2023 2nd + Scott Mayfield

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Landy - Trocheck - Forsberg
Lehky - JTC - Newhook
LOC - Meyers - Cogliano
Sedlak

Toews - Makar
Byram - Mayfield
Edler - Johnson
MacDermid

Fleury
Francouz

By my count that's about $81.8M
Would be very happy with this, but I think the better move would be to re-sign Kadri instead of signing Forsberg. You run MacK-Kadri-Tro down the middle.

You also trade JTC. Kadri should be about $1-1.5m cheaper than Forsberg and you can use that $5m on another top 6 winger.

His teams have competed before. They’ve just been going through a rebuild.

Sens produce nhl talent at some of the highest rates in the nhl. Through the draft and through prospects they trade for.

Can’t trade well? Norris and Stutzle came from one trade alone…

Miller and Gibson? Easily

Rumors are Fleury loves Minnesota. Talbot is pissed and wants out

Let’s trade Girard for him and a pick. Solve the goalie issue and create about $6M in cap space compared to having Keumper and Girard. Enough to keep Kadri if he will sign for $7-8. Also last year of deal so can get out if it doesn’t work.
Sam Girard for Cam Talbot?

What the f**k?!?

His team has competed pretty much 1 time which was the first year he took over for Murray as GM.
Building up prospects in the pipeline is fine, but once again, at some point, the talent and potential has to turn into viable results.

Nothing he’s done has amounted to anything.

I think they’re close to turning the corner, but GM’s don’t deserve this kind of leash.

Tank for a year, or two sure, but that fan base is bleeding fans because they’ve embraced the tank forever. They were dead last in attendance this year.

He was the #1 reason that they competed. His scouting built that team.

Agree on the second part… but it takes time. Year 4 of a rebuild is still rather rough most times. Ottawa isn’t far away though.

As an Avs fan you should appreciate that sometimes it takes time. Sakic took over in 13 and it took this long… after a few failed rebuilds.

Ottawa has had terrible attendance for a long time prior to Dorian. I don’t even think Ottawa is a viable spot long term… but ownership is the larger issue. Not Dorian.

Here’s my stab at a 22 man roster. The biggest move being trading Girard+Newhook for PLD and signing PLD to an 8x8 contract.

Long term outlook has a lot of wiggle room for the next year with MacK, Byram and Meyers being the only significant pieces and JTC/EJ + any cap increases hopefully covering a good chunk of that. Remember the $9.5m is equivalent to the bonuses being given out, not the cap space.

It took them a long time to win a cup, but Colorado’s been competitive for a long time now.

~3 years… Ottawa had a deeper rebuild though with less established young pieces. Theirs is more Avs circa 2009 than Avs 2013. I’m not saying Dorian is perfect, but his eye is very good and given the ownership situation, he’s doing the best that can be expected

Two advantages to Forsberg:

1) FF has a PPG over.2 higher than Kadri, in an almost identical number of games.
2) FF is 4 years younger than Kadri. I think Sakic could find $7M for Naz, but there is zero chance he gives Naz 6 or 7 years. Some other team will. Giving FF 6 years takes him to his age 33 season.

I love Naz. I wish he could retire here. But only a fool turns doen what could be $30 million in dalary across a contract.

Dubois would be a great add. I think that's fair value to acquire him. He's someone who hasn't been mentioned but he would be a good fit here I think.

But I think you're light on Manson. I don't think he comes back. Not for 3.5 mil. And the contracts for Nuke and Lehkonen seem light too.

Josh Manson is probably going to command more than 3.5M.

All I wish for at the draft is Sakic selling high on the Stanley cup winning, gritty, clutch and versatile playoff super star, JT Compher.

Light on Manson and way too heavy on Dubois.
