Rumor: 2022-2023 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Let’s Run it Back!

Anyone who followed the news lately knows that Josh Anderson is in very high demand around the league and Montreal have received (and turned down) multiple significant offers for him. GM's don't think he's the overpaid bum that hfboards think he is, it's not a Dorion thing.

The Sens should have to sit out of the league for at least one season if they use the 7th overall pick to move Matt Murray's contract, which everyone but them knew was a terrible trade and signing when they did it. You don't deserve to be a NHL team if you do stupid **** like that.

I know Elliotte said that's not happening but that talk picked up once again since then. It's still hard to believe.

Dorion is the biggest moron in the NHL. Why people continue to be astounded by Ottawa is incredulous to me.

Dorion is somehow still a GM after managing one of the worst teams in the league for like 6 years.

He absolutely should trade that 7th pick, because if I’m a Sens fan, I’m pissed that he hasn’t shown any progress after such a long time.

Honestly if the trade is something like #7 + Murray for Anderson + Dvorak... I dont think it's a bad deal for Ottawa.

To get out of that contract and get two solid middle 6 players would be a decent deal. And I'm not a fan of Dvorak at all but as a 3C I think he's fine.

Wow @Pierce Hawthorne laid out an offseason map a few pages back that I didn’t think was remotely doable and it got me excited.

It’s not like Sakic and his brass to follow that exact map but just seeing the kind of cap space we have to work with makes me excited. It also makes me really want to let Kuemper walk and save a few dollars in Fleury. Neither goalie is amazing but one will at least give us some bonus cap space.

To be so bad a talent evaluator and make so many awful moves and yet still be firmly entrenched in your role...

Fleury @$2M
Trocheck @$5.5M
Forsberg @$8.5M
Lehkonen @$4M
Nuke @$5.5M
Edler @$1.75M

Trade Girard to NYI for 2023 1st + 2023 2nd + Scott Mayfield

Nuke - Mack - Mikko
Landy - Trocheck - Forsberg
Lehky - JTC - Newhook
LOC - Meyers - Cogliano
Sedlak

Toews - Makar
Byram - Mayfield
Edler - Johnson
MacDermid

Fleury
Francouz

By my count that's about $81.8M
Fleury @$2M - Might work.
Trocheck @$5.5M - Was making 4.75. You think a .75 bump gets it done when he's 28?
Forsberg @$8.5M - This is the middleground with his current team. If he goes FA, no other team beats this?
Lehkonen @$4M - You don't think he might be offersheeted at this price?
Nuke @$5.5M - He's the belle of the ball. The ask of 7 might be high but 5.5?
Edler @$1.75M - You'd likely need 1.75 to cover for the over-optimism above.

Rumors are Fleury loves Minnesota. Talbot is pissed and wants out

Let’s trade Girard for him and a pick. Solve the goalie issue and create about $6M in cap space compared to having Keumper and Girard. Enough to keep Kadri if he will sign for $7-8. Also last year of deal so can get out if it doesn’t work.

The issue is Dorion should have never gave that contract to Murray in the first place now he has to use the 7th overall pick which has the potential to be a star player to get rid of it while adding two average top 9 players who don't move the needle.

This is the rubber hitting the road for Toronto. White knuckle time. How can the Avs exploit this? The Avs need to be in on every goalie and other FAs linked to Toronto to drive up the price (if nothing else).

I like Talbot but he is 35 years old. I'd trade a prospect and a pick for him but not Girard.

G should get us a solid top 6 forward under term.

The only UFAs I'd want outside of Kuemps are Campbell, Husso and Fleury. I don't think Fleury is likely though he'd be the cheapest, and Campbell would be my first choice - he showed well in the POs even though he was inconsistent throughout the year - and performing that well in a market like Toronto is no small task.

I think it would be foolish to spend assets to get Gibson when all of those guys would come at a cheaper caphit. Ultimately I think Kuemps comes back, and the only way I'd be happy is if it was Campbell at around the 5M mark. Always kind of a gamble having 2 undersized goalies though.

Also, Josh Anderson gets underrated on HF. Sure, he's injury prone and his contract is no steal, but the guy is a unique skillset to the NHL and every team wants a player like him on their roster. Tom Wilson, Evander Kane, those type of guys aren't easy to find

Maybe they want to dump him if Fleury returns and we get him for close to nothing. Trade Girard for a top 6 forward like you said. Still have cap space even after signing Lehk, Val

Zero idea why anybody would pay a price for Anderson. Legit don’t get it with that guy…

Those questioning Dorion’s talent evaluation ability are out to lunch though. Guy has a fantastic eye… just has been hamstrung by ownership.

I'm on the trade G train, but it needs to be for an impact player, someone that will fill a real need.

Gibson
Miller
Barzal
Chychrun

Maybe even a Carolina deal if Necas is on the table.

I’d agree with you regarding Dorian’s eye for talent, their amateur scouting staff is also fantastic.

I also don’t see it with Anderson, he’s almost like the forward version of Zadorov to me. You can see all the raw talent, and you keep saying “he will put it all together!”. There used to be a joke on these boards about Zads, he is only x years old, just wait until next year. Feel like that is 100% applicable to Anderson. Guy is 28, maybe he’s a big guy that’s fast but doesn’t have much to show for it.

I’m ok with trading G but we would either need to keep Manson or find a similar RD to replace him. Starts looking a bit thin after our top 3, especially with no Barron or Helleson waiting in the wings

Yup… Anderson is simply a toolsy 3rd liner that drives you crazy. Has all the tools you could ever want, but he’ll never give you what you need. Forward version of Z is very applicable.

Of note too… Dorian is probably the most involved GM in amateur scouting
