Yeah, but his cap still counts against us. So isn’t it ultimately a net zero in the end?
No… raises the cap max by up to 10.5m (whatever the team spends up toon opening night). Toronto and Tampa have used this move recently.

So it would help us in season but not necessarily in the off season?
Years of LTIR and I still don’t understand it.

Off-season you can exceed and still use ltir. Price’s contract will basically be buying cap space when he’s officially done.

Just like Minny, another example of mismanagement. They shouldn't have to lose one key player just to keep another.

They're spending too much on middling players. Giving James Neal that big deal at 31 years old leading them to the Lucic trade who they're paying $5.25M. Backlund making $5.35M and only putting up 39 points in 82 games when scoring was way up last year. Blake Coleman making $4.9M while putting up 33 points in 81 games. Monahan's career falling off making $6.375M. Paying Tanev $4.5M until he's 34.

If they didn't trade for another middling player in Toffoli they might be able to keep their better players. And they should have had Monahan get his hip surgery later in the off season and then LTIR'd him all year. Then they wouldn't have to entertain trading Tkachuk or losing Gaudreau.

Blake Coleman is the exact reason to stay away from the free agent frenzy. Like the NHL these contracts shelled out NEVER work. Most guys in thr NFL who get those massive deals are cut in 2 or 3 years leaving massive dead money hits. In the NHL, these teams have to carry these albatross contracts, trade an asset to unload them or buy them out leaving dead money.

Blake Coleman is a good player but not worth 4.9 million.

It's the same for Trocheck at the 7m he will get and Kadri at the 9m. Teams will regret these deals in 2 or 3 years.

Just stay away from free agency unless its giving out min contracts to vets to fill out a roster. Use our cap space to reward our own guys (as long as you draft well) to show loyalty. That's how you build a long term contender.

I apologize if this was already posted

One of these guys has been sold a bunch of malarkey. Which one is it? Is Miller in "high demand" or is the market for him not as high as Vancouver hoped?

Some guys I'd like to target. Mainly 3rd or 4th liners for depth.

W- Mattias Janmark
W- Vlad Namestnikov
W- Michael Raffl
W- Trevor Lewis
D- Michael Stone
D- Jordie Benn PTO
D- Keith Yandle PTO

I like this list except Jordie Benn

$6M is too much for Kuemper at any term. I would’ve been fine with that after the regular season, but his playoff was just not close to being worthy of that contract.

3 X $5M seems fine to me. Honestly, it might be a bit much, but he’s a starting goaltender and they all get paid.

I know the difference between 5 and 6 isn’t great, but I’m drawing a hard line with Kuemper. The reality is, he’s capable of being quite good, but also looks like a guy who has the yips sometimes. I’m not paying top market value for that. We’ll see how much of his struggles in the postseason were vision related. Tough to know for sure.

I'd love to give @The Kingslayer a stunner regardless, especially after I see him with that slick new avatar that I want to steal and use for myself.

Back to Kuemper though, I don't want him back but three years would certainly be better than one of those Markstrom-type deals I was expecting. It'll probably be higher AAV but I doubt Sakic would go too high on that either.

MAF for cheap wouldn't be terrible but I think Francouz is better right now and no one here thinks he can be the starter so maybe it would be terrible.

I think I want Husso if it's a reasonable deal, which it probably won't be because free agency.
Some other asshole poster took the same avatar a few days after I changed mine. Get the tables!

Knowing now how Lehkonen would explode here I wish Sakic traded Olausson instead of Baron

I could see St.Louis being all over this.

Pierre Dorion should be trying to trade the 7th overall pick+ for Matthew, instead he's targeting two 2nd/3rd line tweener schmoes from Montreal.

He must be trying to one up himself after classic recent trades like "3rd for Travis Hamonic" and "2nd for Matt Murray+extension".

Dorion thinks his team is done rebuilding. He announced this last season and, by god, he has to fill out his roster with NHL players. They don’t have to be stars, but they have to have names that people recognize.
