Around the League 2024-25 season

The Salt Lake City Punks.

That movie is 100% me growing up in a small city in Minnesota.

Two more younger players taking on key roles and thriving of their team, while Bluc and their lackeys push slow-cook development and putting everything on the shoulders of aging veterans. Both these guys are on pace to score 70 points in their age 23 seasons, taken #9 and #12 in their drafts.

Anything but Utah Hockey Club is fine. I hate the whole "___ Club" naming convention. If they go with Hockey Club hopefully they at least have a mascot or something.
We have the Minnesota United Futball Club here and while I hate the name, the logo is at least cool and features a cool looking Loon.

Edit: Saw Herby's post and thought Faber and Ohgren had gone on tears...
Man, does Rossi have more points in his last 28 than the Kings entire top 6 over that time?

Favorite Cliford moment, his newborn son using the Stanley Cup as a basinet.
My memory is really rusty, so I could be remembering this completely wrong. One of my favorite Clifford moments was during the series with the Ducks (game 7?) when Getzlaf took a run at him in the neutral zone. Clifford knew he was going to get destroyed, but totally took the hit to make a pass to Richards, who then scored against Gibson. Looking for the clip, but I haven't found it yet.

Junior teams retire numbers? That seems REAL dumb.
It's pretty meaningful with some of these communities. Generally these players do a lot of community service and they have a big impact. I'm sure Clifford brought the cup there as well when he won it.

Part of what inspires young players (and people) is the idea of leaving a legacy behind somewhere.

It may not mean much to us who are NHL-focused armchair fans, but it may mean something to the next little kid from Ayr, Ontario who may not be the most talented, but pours his heart into making the NHL.

Ok sure, but retiring a number still seems dumb for a junior team that has more players go through it than Mia Khalifa.

Calgary acquiring Frost and Farabee looks like a decent bit of business considering the price paid (Kuzmenko, Pelletier, 2nd and 7th).

I know Kuzmenko played with Michkov for a bit so guessing that played a part in the deal, but not really seeing the value acquired on Philly's side of the deal. Maybe it's a precursor to another move?

Capitals tracked Pierre-Luc Dubois for years before trading for him and believed his problems in LA were solely usage-based

"Washington then confirmed with Tim Barnes, the head of their analytics department, that Dubois’ primary issues in LA revolved around the Kings’ already high usage of Anze Kopitar and Phillip Danault down the middle. Dubois played 15:42 minutes on ice per game with Los Angeles, only the second time in his career that he averaged less than 16 minutes per game in a season."

I don't like this move at all for Philadelphia.

If you're Rantanen's agent, you've gotta be loving this news.

He can demand a huge salary now. I think Colorado probably should've gave him the big contract.

Really liked Rossi in that draft.

But I also was Byfield or Stutzle so nothing matters.

I know this forum likes to get on Fiala a lot with how he plays, and I do it too. He can be frustrating player at times with his decision making and penalties. But one thing is for certain, every single game I notice him trying something. It doesn't work all the time, but I can always sense he's going to go out there and try to make something happen.

I can't say the same about PLD. I can't tell you how many games last year where I couldn't tell if he was actually playing because he was that invisible. I'd rather have a guy like Fiala who's going to try to make plays happen no matter who his linemates are, than a player who is going mope and whine about his distribution and look like he doesn't give a shit. Good for him that he's found a place that works for him, but its also a two way street. We brought him in to fit a specific role and he didn't want to fill it. Now that's not only on him, its on his agent, its on the scouts and its on the GM and the President because anyone with a brain could see that this player was never going to work out here and they made the deal anyways.

Dont you think Colorado knew approx what was. going to happen with the cap - and factored it in? If not, they must be very bummed. I read/heard somewhere that some teams/markets arent going to max out against the cap and Colorado may be one of them.

I would think so.

Even if he wanted the Draisaitl contract (14M), that's only 12% of the 27-28 cap. That's the equivalent of 10.3M today.

And Necas is only signed for this season and next. When it's time to re-up him he'll probably be due for a mega contract himself if he plays well.
